    Abstract: Disclosed is a hermetic AC electric motor that includes harmonics shunting such that high frequency harmonics are shunted from the AC electric motor without the use of one or more high frequency filters in the associated motor drive. A related method of operating an AC electric motor includes shunting high frequency harmonics to a fluid passing through the AC electric motor. Also disclosed is a simplified variable speed motor drive system which eliminates the need for a filter for removing high frequency harmonics.

In accordance with the present invention, the film-forming composition is applied as multiple layers to the paper wrapper. After each application step, the wrapper is dried. Applying the film-forming composition to the paper wrapper in multiple layers minimizes distortion and other adverse affects that may occur to the wrapper.

    Abstract: A smoking article wrapper having improved ignition proclivity characteristics includes discrete areas of an outer circumferential surface of the wrapper treated with a non-aqueous solution of a solvent soluble cellulosic polymer dissolved in a non-aqueous solvent. The solution also includes a particulate inorganic non-reactive filler suspended in solution by weight percentage of solution. The solution is applied in discrete areas as bands or patterns causing reduced permeability of the treated areas within a permeability range adequate to reduce ignition proclivity. A method is also provided for producing a smoking article wrapper having improved ignition proclivity characteristics as described.

    Abstract: A multiplex bus system comprises a master control unit (MCU) connected to at least one receiver-transmit unit (RTU) by a data bus. The MCU transmits to the RTU a message comprising a synchronization pulse of known duration and successive time spaced timing signals separated by time duration T marking the boundaries of data bits to be transmitted from the RTU to the MCU. The RTU includes a clock pulse source which utilizes the synchronization pulse to determine the frequency of the clock pulse source in P pulses per duration T. The value P is used in conjunction with the timing signals to create properly timed data determining signals in the data bits.

    Abstract: A method for producing a nonwoven fabric-like material by a melt blowing technique. Conventional melt blowing equipment is used to form a gas stream containing melt blown microfibers comprising generally discontinuous thermoplastic polymeric microfibers having an average fiber diameter of up to about 10 microns. A liquid, such as water, is sprayed into the gas stream to rapidly cool the fibers and the gas, thereby allowing the production of high quality product at production rates significantly higher than in conventional melt blowing technology. In the final integrated fibrous mat formed on the forming surface, the microfibers are held together by gross mechanical entanglement with each other.
