  • Patent number: 8695699
Abstract: An apparatus comprises an expansion device that is coupled to a support member and operable to be disposed within a tubular member. The expansion device is operable to radially expand the tubular member as the expansion device moves axially through the tubular member. A latch assembly is coupled to the support member and is operable to engage a corresponding latch receptacle disposed within the tubular member so as to limit the axial movement of the expansion device relative to the tubular member.

  • Patent number: 8499840
Abstract: A downhole releasable tubular connection includes a joint between two tubing strings, wherein one of the two tubing strings is radially expanded and plastically deformed by an expansion device. When the expansion device is moved adjacent to the joint, a threaded connection mechanism in the joint reacts to the radially outward forces of the expansion device and releasably expands, thereby decoupling the tubing strings.

  • Patent number: 6338281
Abstract: A bearing apparatus having one or more integrated load sensors for determining the load imposed on a rotatable shaft. The bearing apparatus includes a bearing housing having a bearing set, such as a bearing insert, located therein. The load sensors are preferably configured as strain gauges having resistance characteristics that vary as the bearing housing is deformed. For example, the strain gauges may be angularly spaced in an arcuate recess defined below the bearing set in the bearing housing. Preferably, circuitry is also provided to condition the deformation signal to provide an indication of loading on the shaft. The conditioning circuitry may be advantageously attached to the exterior of the bearing housing.

  • Patent number: 5836702
Abstract: A composite bearing housing includes a molded plastic body in which planar reinforcing elements are embedded. The reinforcing elements may be flat or shaped, such as in frustoconical or other configurations. The plastic body is molded around the reinforcing elements and may be formed in any of a number of styles, such as pillow block styles, four-bolt flanged styles and the like. The housing includes a bearing set support surface and features for securing the housing to a machine frame. The reinforcing elements are edge-loaded to transmit loads on a bearing set to the support features and machine frame. Lateral faces of the reinforcing members contact the body material of the housing to prevent bending or buckling of the reinforcing members under loads.
