  • Patent number: 6629703
Abstract: A cold gas inflator having an opening device for rupturing a burst disk. The cold gas inflator is filled with stored gas. The cold gas inflator has a burst disk, which prevents the stored gas from exiting the pressure vessel. In the event of a automobile accident, the opening device is actuated, which causes the ignition of pyrotechnic material. This ignition generates a shockwave of sufficient energy to rupture the burst disk. The stored gas flows into the diffuser and then exits the cold gas inflator in the radial direction. In another embodiment, the stored gas exits the cold gas inflator in the axial direction.

  • Publication number: 20020071881
Abstract: In accordance with the apparatus and method of the present invention an optical fiber is heated and twisted to produce a periodic modulation of the dielectric constant along the fiber axis. This structure can be used in any application that utilizes Bragg grating optical fibers. A preform is drawn through a heater and the resulting optical fiber is twisted about its longitudinal axis. The refractive index modulation in the optical fiber arises from birefringence induced by stress in the optical fiber that is twisted after being subjected to an uneven heat distribution during the drawing process. The refractive index is modulated by drawing and twisting the optical fiber from a specially constructed preform which is non-cylindrically symmetrical.

  • Patent number: 4831717
Abstract: A commutator alignment fixture includes a cylindrical bore having a plurality of axial circumferentially spaced blades extending inward from a side wall thereof. The circumferential spacing of the blades is determined according to the circumferential spacing of longitudinally extending, circumferentially spaced slots in a commutator wherein the alignment fixture blades coact with the commutator slot to axially slidably support the commutator in known circumferential orientation to the armature winding and core location when the commutator assembly is press-fit onto an armature shaft so that the commutator slots are in circumferential orientation with respect to the slots on the armature.
