Patent number: 9097449Abstract: This patent is directed to an external air conditioning system connected to a parked airplane. The system has multiple refrigeration units. Each refrigeration unit has a controller. Each refrigeration unit's controlled is linked to a common controller. A single stream of air flows through all of the evaporators in series. Each of the refrigeration units has multiple compressors. Additional compressors are activated or deactivated based on refrigerant pressure. The activation or deactivation pressures are staggered across the refrigeration units, thus coordinating operation of the multiple refrigeration units.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2007Date of Patent: August 4, 2015Assignee: HOBART BROTHERS COMPANYInventors: Richard Meier, Varun Rajasekaran, Daniel Quinones

Patent number: 8850455Abstract: Parent backup application monitoring of children backup applications is described. Child backup information, including an execution of a child backup task by a child backup application, is communicated from the child backup application to a parent backup application. Second child backup information, including an execution of a second child backup task by a second child backup application, may be communicated from the second child backup application to the parent backup application. A parent backup task is executed by the parent backup application. At least one child backup application inherently lacks a functionality to execute the parent backup task as the parent backup application executes the parent backup task. A report is generated based on the child backup information.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2013Date of Patent: September 30, 2014Assignee: EMC CorporationInventors: Kiran K. Bachu, Vladimir Mandic, Richard Meier

Patent number: 7792165Abstract: Improved dispersion compensating circuits for optical transmission systems are disclosed. According to the improved method, there is provided a compensation circuit comprising a varactor diode network. The network is preferably inserted between a source of laser modulating signal and the laser. A low-pass filter or all pass filter constructs the network. The network preferably includes an inductor or inductors and a combined circuit, which includes varactors. The network preferably provides an amplitude dependent delay of the modulating signal applied to the laser or to the optical receiver as post dispersion correction circuitry. In a first embodiment, a fixed capacitor is in series with a varactor and connected to a DC bias through inductor. Additional embodiments, using multiple varactors in different circuit configurations, with particular advantages for various applications identified.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2008Date of Patent: September 7, 2010Assignee: General Instrument CorporationInventors: Ihab Khalouf, Richard Meier, Shutong Zhou

Publication number: 20090084120Abstract: A conditioned air delivery system is provided for parked aircraft. The system can accommodate elevated thermal loads while maintaining operation, albeit with reduced flow rates or slightly elevated temperatures. When temperature set points are not reached or cannot be maintained, a second compressor of a refrigeration unit is operated in parallel with a first compressor. When refrigerant pressure becomes excessive, a second fan is operated that is associated with a condenser of the system. Still higher pressures, indicative of higher thermal loads, can cause the system to shut down operation of one of the compressors, reducing the overall cooling capacity of the system, while maintaining the supply of refrigerated air to the aircraft. The airflow may be reduced to maintain an air temperature at or near the desired temperature. Coordination of several parallel and redundant refrigeration units may be provided with a single blower and coordinated control.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 2007Publication date: April 2, 2009Applicant: Hobart Brothers CompanyInventors: Richard Meier, Varun Rajasekaran, Daniel Quinones

Publication number: 20040039700Abstract: A process for masking one or more predetermined portions of a surface of a card, for example a hologram, a signature area, or an area to be later personalized, to prevent a printed transfer media from being coated onto the predetermined surface portion as the transfer media is coated onto the remaining surface of the card. As a result of masking the predetermined surface portion, the predetermined surface portion is not covered by the transfer media.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 11, 2002Publication date: February 26, 2004Applicant: DataCard CorporationInventor: Gene Richard Meier

Publication number: 20010054927Abstract: An in-line distortion generator for coupling in-line with a non-linear device (NLD) produces an output signal of useful amplitude, but with low composite triple beat and cross modulation distortions. The distortion generator comprises an instant controlled non-linear attenuator which utilizes the non-linear current flowing through a pair of diodes to provide the proper amount of signal attenuation over the entire frequency bandwidth. The distortion generator circuitry is always matched to the NLD, thereby ensuring a frequency response that is predictable and predefined. The distortion generator may also include a temperature compensation circuit to ensure consistent operation throughout a wide temperature range.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 1, 1999Publication date: December 27, 2001Inventors: SHUTONG ZHOU, TIMOTHY J. BROPHY, RICHARD MEIER
