  • Publication number: 20190161536
Abstract: This invention is in the area of improved anti-aP2 antibodies and antigen binding agents, and compositions thereof, which target the lipid chaperone aP2/FABP4 (referred to as “aP2”) for use in treating disorders such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver disease, and/or cancer, among others. In one aspect, improved treatments for aP2 mediated disorders are disclosed in which serum aP2 is targeted and the biological activity of aP2 is neutralized or modulated using low-binding affinity aP2 monoclonal antibodies, providing lower fasting blood glucose levels, improved systemic glucose metabolism, increased systemic insulin sensitivity, reduced fat mass, reduced liver steatosis, reduced cardiovascular disease and/or a reduced risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

  • Publication number: 20170332692
Abstract: An Avocado De-seeder and De-skinner and Method is disclosed. The cutting, deseeding and pulping sequences is conducted by three separate stations along a conveyor system. At a first station, the incoming avocados (including the seeds) are cut into two halves. At a second station, the seed-halves are plucked cleanly from the avocado half without damaging the pulp. At a third station, the skin is removed cleanly from the pulp and discarded. In order to insure that the skin is easily removed and that the pulp is left undamaged, the skin side of the (seeded) avocado halves is heated enough to release the skin, but not so much as to damage the pulp. This heating step is conducted as the de-seeded avocado halves are being conveyed from the de-seeder to the de-skinner.

  • Patent number: 9728949
Abstract: An apparatus and method for preventing intrusion into a splice closure includes a pair of end wall plates, a first housing plate and a second housing plate affixed to an outer casing of the splice closure. Each end wall plate includes two or more end wall segments made of a formable metal and having a plurality of finger-shaped extensions that are bendable to conform to the contour of an end wall of the splice closure and around any cable(s) entering or exiting the splice closure. The first housing plate is made of a metal and pre-formed to conform to the contour of a first housing half of the outer casing of the splice closure. The second housing plate is made of a metal and pre-formed to conform to the contour of a second housing half of the outer casing of the splice closure. The first and second housing plates may be separable along a centerline of symmetry for use with an extended-length splice closure.

  • Patent number: 9678401
Abstract: In a method of operating a liquid crystal device having a liquid crystal composition with smectic-A properties, a first waveform is applied to optically clear the device so that it is substantially transparent to visible light and a second waveform is applied to disorder the material of the liquid crystal composition to afford a strongly light-scattering state. The first waveform has a higher frequency than the second, waveform, and the method comprises applying a modified waveform to partially clear at least a portion of the device from the light-scattering state.
