Abstract: The present invention teaches a novel polyisocyanate lacquer binder and a method preparing it. The binder is prepared by reacing uretidione containing polyisocyanates optionally mixed with uretdione free diisocyanates with water or with low molecular weight compounds which have two alcoholic hyroxyl groups per molecule. Optionally these compounds may be mixed with up to 60 wt.% based on the total weight of hydroxyl bearing compounds, of low molecular weight compounds with one active alcoholic hydroxyl group per molecule. The proportion of reactants is so selected that the binder produces has from 5 to 20 wt.% of latent isocyanate groups in the form of unopened uretdione rings. The binder can then be mixed with polyhydroxyl compounds having molecular weights of 400 to 10,000 and conventional lacquer pigments and fillers. This mixture can then be coated on a substrate and the coating heated to above 110.degree. C to effect hardening.

Abstract: An apparatus for clamping and centering bodies during rotation for balancing with a body receiving plate which is mounted on a spindle and which has a pair of concentric flexible rings or gaskets mounted on the upper surface thereof to define, when the body rests on the rings, a vacuum chamber from which air is removed to lock the body in place by channels which extend through the plate and communicate with the vacuum chamber. A housing extends about and is connected to the spindle by bearings with the space between the housing and spindle communicating with the vacuum chamber and with a connection extending through the housing for removing air from the vacuum chamber. Extensions of the spindle and vent holes between the housing space and the bearing prevent a vacuum from being developed in the area of the bearings.

Abstract: This invention relates to a new process for the production of new water-dispersible polyhydroxyl compounds, to the compounds obtainable by this process and to the use thereof. An organic polyhydroxyl compound having an average molecular weight from about 400 to 10,000 which is insoluble or non-dispersible in water, is reacted with a compound containing at least one non-ionic, hydrophilic group, said compound preferably being the reaction product of a monohydroxy polyalkylene oxide and an organic polyisocyanate at an NCO/OH ratio of about 1.2:1 to 2.2:1.

Abstract: Copolymers of (meth)acrylates and .alpha.,.beta.-monoolefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid having 3 to 5 carbon atoms are used as additives for improving levelling, glass and reactivity in powder lacquers. Said powder lacquers contain polymerized units of at least 35% by weight of styrene and (meth)acrylate and 5 to 30% by weight of at least one monomer containing a hydroxyl, carboxyl, glycidyl, N-methylol or N-methylol ether group. The powder lacquer mixture contains 0.1 to 5% by weight of the additive.

Abstract: Powdered coating agent for use in the sprayed powder process comprising a mixture ofA. free hydroxyl groups containing copolymers having been reacted with an acid anhydride;B. a cross-linker such as triglycidyl isocyanurate or bis- or tris-oxazolines and optionallyC. auxiliary agents such as pigments and levelling agents.The copolymer contains polymerized units of30 to 85% by weight of styrene or derivatives thereof or methylmethacrylate or mixtures thereof;5 to 60% by weight of acrylic or methacrylic esters excepted methylmethacrylate and10 to 30% by weight of hydroxyalkylester of acrylic or methacrylic acid, said copolymer having been reacted with an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic acid anhydride;4 to 20 parts by weight of the cross-linker are employed for 96 to 80 parts by weight of the acidified copolymer.
