  • Patent number: 8589033
Abstract: Time-of-flight (TOF) three-dimensional sensing systems are deployed on or in a motor vehicle to image contact zones associated with potential contact between an avoidable object and the vehicle or vehicle frame and/or remotely controllable motorized moving door or liftgate. An algorithm processes depth data acquired by each TOF system to determine whether an avoidable object is in the associated contact zone. If present, a control signal issues to halt or reverse the mechanism moving the door. A stored database preferably includes a depth image of the contact zone absent any object, an image of the door, and volume of the door. Database images are compared to newly acquired depth images to identify pixel sensors whose depth values are statistically unlikely to represent background or the door. Pixels within the contact zone so identified are an object, and the control signal is issued.

  • Patent number: 7388938
Abstract: Bit and byte synchronization for sampling and decoding a data string is provided a single data field u. The data string x has pre-pended to it a short string of 1s (ones), followed by u to yield a string y= . . . 1111, u, x. The string is pre-coded by convolution with 1/(1?D2). PRML-sampling of y starts at an initial phase, and vectors are obtained from that string by sampling at pre-selected phases following the initial sampling point. The vectors of y are compared with vectors corresponding to PRML samples of an initial set of bits in u obtained at predetermined phases. The pair of y, u vectors exhibiting the minimum Euclidian distance yields a sampling correction value by which the initial sampling phase is corrected and a new initial sampling point preceding x is determined. Here, bit and byte synchronization have been achieved and sampling of x proceeds at the corrected phase, from the new initial sampling point.

  • Publication number: 20080027894
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a file system that can store files or data streams in such a manner as to increase the effective storage capacity of the device on which the files or data stream are stored. In one embodiment, a system for processing and storing data comprises a first processing module configured to receive data directed to the system, the data comprising a first portion and a second portion; a second processing module configured to store the first portion of the data within a data storage device and remove the second portion of the data; a third processing module configured to retrieve the first portion of the data from the data storage device, the first portion of the data being combined with filler data to form reconstituted data; and a fourth processing module configured to send the reconstituted data to an output device.

  • Patent number: 7310711
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a data storage apparatus with new features to more easily enable atomic transactions. Rather than having the host system issue the multiple logging commands to the data storage apparatus, the data storage apparatus can be modified so that it can perform the logging function itself. In one embodiment, a data storage controller of a data storage apparatus for implementing an atomic transaction comprises a receiving module configured to receive from a host one or more commands to be executed as an atomic transaction; a log recording module, configured to record in a nonvolatile storage a log containing the one or more commands of the atomic transaction, the log to be administered by the data storage controller and not by the host; and an execution module configured to perform the one or more commands of the atomic transaction.

  • Publication number: 20070097535
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention recite a method of preserving data on a hard disk drive. In one embodiment, a first copy of data is read from at least one sector of a hard disk drive and stored in a first location. A second copy of the data is stored in a non-volatile memory location of the hard disk drive. The first copy of the data is then modified to create a modified copy. The second copy of the data is then used to verify that the modified copy of data has been correctly written to the at least one sector of the hard disk drive.

  • Publication number: 20070101056
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention recite a method of preserving data on a hard disk drive. In one embodiment, a copy of data is read from at least one sector of a hard disk drive and stored in a memory location of the hard disk drive. At least a portion of the data in the memory location of the hard disk drive is then replaced to create a modified copy of data. A copy of the modified copy of data is then stored in a non-volatile memory location of the hard disk drive. Finally, the data from the at least one sector is replaced with the modified copy of data.

  • Publication number: 20070053188
Abstract: A lighting fixture and lighting system for a transportation vehicle is disclosed that provides color variations for lighting the passenger cabin of an airplane, train, bus or other type of transportation vehicle. The lighting fixture and system further provide ultraviolet light that helps to disinfect the circulating air in the passenger cabin. A fixture in an exemplary lighting system provides visible light for lighting up the passenger cabin and germicidal ultraviolet light directed toward or into an output vent(s) of the air circulation system of the passenger vehicle. The ultraviolet light is segregated from the visible light such that ultraviolet light is only directed toward or into the circulation vents of the vehicle's air circulation system.
