    Abstract: A system for warning people of a fire hazard comprising a flammable substrate having bound thereto a non-vaporous organic compound of molecular weight below 400, which forms a respiratory irritant upon being vaporized. The organic compound remains bound to the substrate in non-vaporous form under normal conditions of use, but is vaporized from the surface upon exposure to temperature no lower than about 200.degree. C.
