  • Patent number: 6742345
Abstract: A temperature control system is described for producing and maintaining temperatures in a pre-defined space within a pre-defined temperature range. A working fluid comprising an aqueous solution of 1-3 propanediol is circulated through a heat transfer system in thermal communication with both the working fluid and the pre-defined space to produce and maintain the temperature in the pre-defined space that is within the pre-defined temperature range.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 27, 2002
Date of Patent: June 1, 2004
    Assignee: The Penray Companies, Inc.

  • Patent number: 4408058
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the synthesis of ortho-sulfobenzoic acid anhydride which comprises heating a 2-sulfohalide benzoate in the presence of a catalytic amount of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst. Especially preferred in the practice of this invention is the reaction of ortho-carbomethoxybenzenesulfonyl chloride in the presence of a zinc or iron halide to produce ortho-sulfobenzoic acid anhydride.

  • Patent number: 4269987
Abstract: A method for purifying a triazole composition is disclosed. The method involves the steps of producing a substantially anhydrous slurry in an alcohol of an alkali metal or of an alkaline earth metal salt of the triazole to be purified, separating solids from the slurry and washing the solids with an alcohol. A preferred method includes the steps of charging to a suitable vessel a crude triazole, a substantially equivalent amount of sodium hydroxide, added to an aqueous solution, hexanol or another alcohol having comparatively low water solubility, and xylene or another inert solvent; water is then removed from the system by azeotropic distillation to produce the desired slurry. When the triazole is benzotriazole or any given tolyltriazole isomer, the purified triazole can merely be recovered from the dried solvent system by filtration, washed (usually with a mixture of fresh solvent of the same identity as that from which it had been filtered) and dried.

  • Patent number: 4170521
Abstract: A method for purifying benzotriazole, tolyl-triazole or mixtures of the two is disclosed. The method includes the steps of vacuum distillation of crude triazole and collection of the condensate. The crude triazole contains color bodies, diazotizable impurities which are color body precursors, or both. The color of the distilled triazole is improved by adding to the crude triazole, prior to vacuum distillation, an amount of formaldehyde sufficient for reaction with an appreciable proportion of the color bodies, the color body precursors, or both.
