  • Patent number: 9392437
Abstract: A method for identifying alternative end-to-end media paths through Internet protocol realms using substitute session description protocol parameters is disclosed. The method includes receiving a session description protocol offer, including a list of internet protocol realms. The list may include any number of previously traversed through internet protocol realms and/or secondary Internet protocol realms. The method continues with determining the outgoing Internet protocol realm for a media path based on unspecified signaling criteria. Finally, the method includes that if the outgoing Internet protocol realm to be traversed through is on the list of previously traversed through and/or secondary Internet protocol realms, bypassing at least one border gateway associated with the incoming and previously traversed through Internet protocol realms.

  • Publication number: 20140064217
Abstract: An architecture and procedures by which an NGN can provide the following capabilities to an NGCN user: basic terminating service in the peering model; enhanced terminating services in the peering model; enhanced originating services in the peering model; and roaming service in the subscription and peering models. All capabilities are provided in an easily scalable manner via provisioned subscriber data and small modifications to existing IMS procedures. In one embodiment, an NGN is configured among the external networks to receive all SIP requests intended for the NGCN users of an NGCN interconnected to the NGN via the peering model (this NGN is the trunking home NGN), and the NGN forwards these requests to the NGCN for handling using request retargeting.

All capabilities are provided in an easily scalable manner via provisioned subscriber data and small modifications to existing IMS procedures. • Patent number: 8218462
Abstract: A network infrastructure device of an apparatus in one example comprises a first external interface and a second external interface. The network infrastructure device communicates with a first telecommunication network through the first external interface. The network infrastructure device communicates with a second telecommunication network through the second external interface. The network infrastructure device allows a mobile communication device that has a first registration in the first telecommunication network and a second registration in the second telecommunication network to receive, through the second telecommunication network, a call directed to the first registration. The first telecommunication network is unable to directly query the second telecommunication network for a status of the second registration.

  • Patent number: 8139541
Abstract: A call processing method and system in which the use of the MGW between the RNC and the peer party is limited to only certain situations. This invention uses RFC 3267 (AMR/IETF) on the RNC. This will avoid inserting a MGW context for framing conversion only. This invention provides an optimization that sets up calls from the RNC, thus avoiding the need for a MGW in the path for basic calls. With this optimization, the usage of DSP and packet resources and the number of MGW chassis, as well as bearer path delay, are all reduced.

  • Patent number: 7885234
Abstract: A method and system for providing circuit-switched to IP Multimedia Subsystem voice call continuity with a single radio are provided. The exemplary embodiment takes advantage of a standard RANAP signaling procedure called “directed retry” to perform a much better coordination between the change in radio mode and the transfer of the media path. With the use of “directed retry”, the transfer of the media path does not begin until the handover procedure is complete, thus significantly reducing the likely amount of media disruption.

  • Publication number: 20100215018
Abstract: Systems and methods for performing a cellular call handover from a home node b (HNB) to a macro cellular communication node (e.g., a base station or radio access network) are disclosed. An interworking function (IWF) is provided in the HNB and acts as an anchor mobile switching center (MSC) for a user device served by the HNB, and communicates with a visited MSC for the HNB. The IWF sends a request to a target MSC (which may be the visited MSC) serving the HNB, to handover the call to the macro node. The call is then handed over to the macro communication node by the target MSC. In this manner, the IWF facilitates providing the described handover in conformity with existing 3GPP standards, without requiring additional standards to be generated and without requiring additional system components.

  • Patent number: 7668183
Abstract: An apparatus in one example has: a plurality of networks operatively coupled to one another, and having respective end points; and a single SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) profile useable by each network of the plurality of networks; wherein two end points, via signaling mechanisms within SIP, negotiate a level of support for ISUP (Integrated Services Digital Network User Part) services that are usable between the two end points.

  • Patent number: 7639669
Abstract: An exemplary method controls features and services implemented by nodes in a first communication network where nodes in a second network are not adapted to provide such control or services. A first signaling message is sent by a device in response to receipt by a recipient in the first network of a packet transmitted from an originator in another network that does not support the control and services of the first network. The first signaling message is received at a first perimeter node of the first network that in response sends second signaling messages to the other perimeter nodes. Upon the determination of the occurrence of an event by a second perimeter node, a third signaling message is sent from the second perimeter node to the recipient so that it traverses intermediate nodes in the first network utilized for carrying packets from the originator to the recipient. The third signaling message contains control information defining a service feature to be controlled by the intermediate nodes.

  • Patent number: 7551604
Abstract: A method is provided for controlling communications to and from an access terminal during a hand off period. A smart packet filter is used to identify a packet flow, apply a first treatment to a packet flow based on its destination, and transmit the first treated packet flow along a first route to the access terminal. During a hand off, the packet stream is duplicated, a second treatment is applied to the packet flow and the second treated duplicate packet flow is transmitted to the access terminal via a second route.

  • Patent number: 6975611
Abstract: A method and communication device for media access control feedback over a packet channel divided in channel time slots is provided. The channel time slots are divided into sub-channel time slots. A packet channel feedback field associated with each sub-channel time slot is defined. Acknowledgments are indicated using the packet channel feedback field. An active mobile identity associated with an active mobile station may be assigned which would then be included in the packet channel feedback field. A plurality of active mobile identities may be assigned and some of the active mobile identities may be reserved for special functions. The assigned active mobile identity is used, among other things, to identify an active mobile station to receive packet data signals. The active mobility identity is invalidated after one transaction of packet data signals or invalidated after a short number of such transactions.

  • Patent number: 6895057
Abstract: A system and method is provided for communicating in a wireless communication system which supports link adaptation or link adaptation and incremental redundancy. The invention provides link adaptation at multiple code rate by dividing fixed length RLC blocks into coded sub-blocks. CRC code may be appended to the RLC blocks for error detection. The sub-blocks are then grouped into transmission units for transmission. The number of sub-blocks in each group is varied to provide multiple code rates. Headers are used to identify the transmission units being transmitted. In the case of retransmission, the transmission units may be expressly identified through extended headers. One or more of the originally transmitted sub-blocks are dropped and replaced by the extended headers in the retransmission. Accordingly, the present invention provides for a retransmission code rate which may be different from the code rate at which the transmission units were originally transmitted.

  • Patent number: 6778558
Abstract: A system and method for incremental redundancy transmission in a communication system. A time slot is provided having at least one sub-slot with a fixed size, and a data block sized to fit in the sub-slot, a header having a one data block sequence number in the header for the time slot. A parity block is sized smaller than the data block such that the parity block and the data block sequence number fit within the sub-slot. The data block and parity block are transmitted in the sub-slot within the time slot. In the header for the time slot the number of data blocks and parity blocks transmitted are identified.
