  • Patent number: 6361475
Abstract: A jaw exercising device which includes an outer frame having spaced apart cross members and an inner frame with spaced apart cross members coupled to the outer frame for movement therealong and outwardly extending blades for engaging the jaws of a patient carried by adjacent cross members of the outer and inner frame.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5785713
Abstract: A fixation apparatus including a body portion and a plurality of leg portions extending from the body portion. The body portion is resiliently deformable between an initial orientation and an insertion orientation upon application of a force to the body portion. The leg portions are oriented at an angle relative to the opposite leg portion when the body portion is in the initial orientation and the leg portions are substantially parallel when the body portion is moved to the insertion orientation for insertion of the leg portions into tissue. The leg portions at least partially return to the initial orientation when the force applied to the body portion is released such that the leg portions anchor the fixation apparatus to the tissue.

  • Patent number: 5634926
Abstract: A bone fixation apparatus for anchoring a surgical member to bone for the fixation of bone or soft tissue to bone. The bone fixation apparatus includes a post device having a leg portion slidably insertable into a hole formed in bone. The leg portion is of sufficient length relative to the interior diameter of the hole to resist removal of the leg portion from the hole when forces substantially parallel to the outer surface of the bone are applied to the post device to anchor the surgical member to bone. In one aspect of the invention, the surgical member is a plate section of an elongated sheet of surgical plate material which may be divided into a plurality of plate sections each having an arbitrary shape.

  • Patent number: 5542437
Abstract: An eyelid weighting system for the treatment of lagophthalmos. The weighting system includes a weight body having a concave first surface with a radius of curvature substantially conforming to the curvature of the eyeball and a second surface spaced from the first surface. First and second major edges join the first and second surfaces and a pair of side edges extend between the first and second major edges.

Inventors: John M. Blackmore, Richard P. Jobe
  • Patent number: 5209242
Abstract: Condoms with leading medication-dispensing sponges surrounding a well for semen at the distal end are described. The purpose is to combine the advantages of condoms and medication-dispensing sponges for reducing the chances of acquiring sexually transmitted diseases, as well as unwanted pregnancy, resulting from sexual intercourse. The sponge, to which medication can be added, will tend to force the medication to the area at which it is most effective.

  • Patent number: 4153929
Abstract: Disclosed is a multi-faceted light reflector and a method of manufacturing the reflector. Planar facets are arranged in tiers, or in some other order, tangent to the surface of a spheroid to form the reflector. The size and location of the facets are correlated to the size and location of the illuminated plane. A light source is located at one focus and the illuminated plane is located at the other focus where the illuminated plane is perpendicular to the major axis of the spheroid. The facets are dimensioned and positioned so that substantially all of the reflected light from the light source is reflected to a preselected area on the illuminated plane. The method of manufacture includes calculating the coordinates for each facet, forming a convex die from the calculated coordinates, and molding the concave reflector from the convex die thus formed.
