  • Patent number: 6886226
Abstract: A hand-held riveting tool is driven by a battery-powered electric motor, and comprises a hydraulically-actuated riveting head, and a reciprocating hydraulic pump driven by the electric motor. The tool includes a reservoir for hydraulic fluid, the hydraulic supply line from the pump to the riveting head being connected to the reservoir by a reservoir inlet valve which is normally open to allow hydraulic fluid to flow from the supply line into the reservoir. Operation of the tool-actuating trigger firstly closes the reservoir inlet valve, and then switches on the electric motor to operate the pump. Release of the tool-actuating trigger firstly switches off the electric motor to stop operation of the pump, and then opens the reservoir inlet valve. When the reservoir inlet valve is closed by operation of the trigger, it acts as a pressure-relief valve to relieve over-pressure of hydraulic fluid.

  • Patent number: 6567893
Abstract: A system and method for caching objects using a cost-based publish and subscribe paradigm, wherein a server computing node determines whether a given cache node should receive a cache update based on, e.g., the cost of sending the update. In one aspect, a method for maintaining objects in a cache comprises the steps of issuing a subscription for an object, maintaining a metric for the object; and determining, based on the metric, whether a cache is to receive an update message associated with the object. The metric is preferably correlated with one or more factors such as an importance factor of maintaining the cached copy of the object current, the cost of the sending the update message, and/or the estimated lifetime of the object.

  • Publication number: 20020174034
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer implemented instructions for processing commercial transactions of a user over a large geographic area. The system for processing commercial transactions includes a network, and one or more primary computing nodes connected to the network and a plurality of secondary computing nodes connected to the network in which each of the plurality of secondary computing nodes being associated with one of the plurality of geographic sites. The system also includes product inventories in which the product inventories are associated with one of the geographic sites. A catalog of products identifying the product inventories is present. One or more primary computing nodes notifies the secondary computing nodes of the catalog. A user contacts a first node from the plurality of secondary computing nodes. The user may purchase or place a product order with the first node with the “first node” forwarding the order to one or more primary computing nodes.

  • Patent number: 6247607
Abstract: A low profile secondary seal for sealing the space between the inner wall of a tank and a roof floating on a liquid product within the tank is of relatively simple, lightweight construction and of low profile so as to maximize the possible height of the floating roof within the tank. The seal includes a plurality of resilient support plates mounted in spaced-apart relation along the edge of the floating roof at first ends thereof and extending outwardly to opposite second ends thereof which are coupled to an elongated wiper assembly. The support plates are made of resilient material such as full hard stainless steel which maintains a desired shape in resilient fashion, so as to continuously resiliently bias the wiper assembly against the inner wall of the tank. The second ends of the support plates are pivotably coupled to the wiper assembly. Angled skid plates coupled to the wiper assembly engage the inner wall of the tank to facilitate movement of the wiper assembly thereover.

  • Patent number: 5927534
Abstract: A seal for sealing the space between the inner wall of a tank and a roof floating on a liquid product within the tank includes a plurality of partially overlapping barrier plates mounted along a rim of the floating roof so as to extend outwardly along a first portion of each plate and then downwardly along a second portion of each plate which is relatively flat and which forms a seal against the inner wall of the tank. A plurality of resilient tension springs, mounted in spaced-apart relation along the rim of the floating roof, extend outwardly and bias the seals formed by the second portions of the plates against the inner tank wall.

  • Patent number: 5581737
Abstract: A method and apparatus for optimizing a data structure of an external data storage facility shared by a plurality of data processing systems, the data structure being allocated by a first allocation command which includes first allocation parameters based on an amount of storage space in the external data storage facility assigned for creation of the data structure and a composition of the data structure, includes a device for determining values of the first allocation parameters, to thereby determine a first composition of the data structure, a device for determining an actual usage of the data structure, to thereby determine a second composition of the data structure, a device for comparing the first composition of the data structure with the second composition of the data structure, and a device for issuing, based on an output from the comparing device, a second allocation command having second allocation parameters, to the data structure for reallocation thereof.

  • Patent number: 5023772
Abstract: A message storage system and method having a plurality of message storage facilities with storage locations and a storage facility manager. The message storage system assigns individual names to messages as they are input into a message storage facility and stores the messages in free storage locations, while returning the name of the messages to the host devices which sent them.
