Patent number: 7310504Abstract: A method and system characterizes an IF response of a receiver under test, such that an effect on the characterization by errors associated with uncertainties in knowledge of an RF stimulus signal used to perform the characterization is reduced. The method includes determining an estimate of an actual IF response of the receiver under test from IF responses of the receiver under test measured at overlapping frequency bands and a set of conversion coefficients computed therefrom, such that the estimate reduces the effect of the errors. The system includes a signal generator, an IF processor, a computer program, and a controller that controls the generator and the processor and executes the computer program. When a receiver under test is characterized, the receiver is connected between the signal generator, the IF processor and the controller. The computer program includes instructions that implement characterizing the receiver IF response.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2004Date of Patent: December 18, 2007Assignee: Agilent Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Raymond A. Patent number: 6587671Abstract: An RF test set having a concurrent measurement architecture is provided. The RF test set is adapted for testing an RF communications device such as a cellular phone according to a set of RF tests. An RF source and an RF receiver are used to communicate with the cellular phone in order to perform the call processing operations to control the cellular phone while performing parametric measurements according to the RF tests. Concurrent measurements allow operation of concurrent measurement processes and call processing operations to take place in the RF test set in order to decrease the time required for each RF test and to increase measurement throughput of the RF test set.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1999Date of Patent: July 1, 2003Assignee: Agilent Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Kerwin D. Patent number: 5509199Abstract: An automotive dual radiator and condenser assembly with optimized structural and thermal capabilities. The two halves or layers of the dual assembly are interconnected by a pair of widely spaced, narrow webs, which webs interconnect two halves of a slotted tandem header plate unit. The webs, though small, are sufficient to maintain all components of the whole assembly properly and rigidly spaced at all times, during assembly, during brazing, and during and after installation. The two webs also represent the only significant direct heat conduction path between the radiator and condenser, so that thermal efficiency is comparable to a pair of non connected units.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1995Date of Patent: April 23, 1996Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Henry E. Beamer, Prasad S. Kadle, Richard P. Ryan, John P. Papin

Patent number: 5400590Abstract: Trap for filtering particulates from diesel engine exhaust including filter cartridge arrangement having heat enhancement elements. In the case of exhaust gases flowing through a filter cartridge from inside to out and the cartridge having an inner tubular heater, heat enhancement elements include a heat insulator plugging the downstream end of the cartridge, a plurality of flow distribution rings which inhibit flow to the end of the cartridge thereby causing more even flow through the cartridge nearer the upstream end, and mechanism for controlling regeneration on-time as a function of vehicle system voltage and pre-energization heater temperature. In the case of a filter cartridge having flow from outside to in and having an outer heater, heat enhancement elements include a tubular, non-filtering, heat insulating sleeve about the heater and mechanism for controlling on-time as a function of vehicle system voltage and pre-energization heater temperature.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1993Date of Patent: March 28, 1995Assignee: Donaldson Company, Inc.Inventors: Wayne M. Patent number: 5289873Abstract: A heat exchanger apparatus includes a pair of tank units for containing a fluid, such as an engine coolant, or freon, each including a header having a plurality of slots for receiving a plurality of parallel fluid flow tubes in fluid communication between the tanks. Air centers are connected between the parallel fluid flow tubes for directing an inlet air stream of the vehicle. Side plates are secured between the ends of the headers to protect and provide rigidity to the heat exchanger. Interlocking members are provided between the headers and sideplates for interlocking same to one another during the brazing process.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1992Date of Patent: March 1, 1994Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Richard P. Ryan, Gary A. Halstead, Glenn W. Shaffer, Shrikant M. Joshi

Patent number: 5226490Abstract: A heat exchanger apparatus includes a pair of tanks with parallel tube passes and air centers connected therebetween for cooling the engine fluid, such as a coolant, by the air intake stream to the vehicle. The tanks are formed by an extrusion forming three sides thereof and a header is brazed thereto for forming the fluid chamber in the tanks. The extrusion includes a die formed pocket therein to receive the sides and one end of a partition member and the second end of the partition member is curved to abut the header. The curved second end has flanged ears therein that seat in segments of the die formed pocket which are laterally outwardly of spaced sides segments of the pocket to position the partition within the pocket so that an outer surface thereon will be positioned against a header to form a braze seal between the partition and both the header and the extruded tank.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1992Date of Patent: July 13, 1993Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Richard P. Ryan, Gary A. Halstead, David M. Smith

Patent number: 5187719Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the phase and amplitude accuracy of continuous-phase-modulated signals is described. A modulated RF signal generated by a transmitter is down converted to a relatively low intermediate frequency which is filtered and sampled by a high sampling rate analog-to-digital converter. A digital signal processor processes the digital signals to produce a measured phase function corresponding to the modulated RF signal. From the measured amplitude and phase functions, an estimate of the ideal reference phase function corresponding to the modulated RF signal is calculated and synthesized. The reference phase function is compared to the measured phase function to determine the phase function from which the modulated RF signal phase error and frequency error are computed.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1990Date of Patent: February 16, 1993Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: Raymond A. Patent number: 5185925Abstract: A condenser having two piece die formed condenser tube parts that are joined along a beveled outer edge. The tube material is braze cladded on both sides for corrosion resistance and for high quality internal braze bonding of (1) longitudinal tube webs for optimizing burst strength, and (2) the tubes to associated air centers which are not cladded for an economical unit. The tubes can be readily made in a multiport or single port design by die forming the longitudinal webs in each tube part, and at discreet lengths along the tube length to provide a cut off area for sizing the tube and a smooth circumferential area where the tube parts with a beveled outer edge enter the header providing a close fit and high quality brazed joints. This tube design provides material and cost advantages over the conventional extruded tubes or roll formed condenser tubes and is readily fabricated using corrosion resistant alloys providing long service life.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1992Date of Patent: February 16, 1993Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Richard P. Patent number: 5096248Abstract: A unit is provided where there is, included, a grip portion (8), a strap portion (11), and a buckle portion (14), which can be encircled around a load to facilitate bundling, carrying and storing of that load and can be attached to the load without having to set down that load. The unit will remain around load until removed because of the friction between the strap portion (11) and buckle portion (14). Unit may also be semi-permanently attached to a part of the said load so as to prevent the loss of the unit. For example: A person may insert a rope (62) through the dog bone slots (47) (50) to retain the unit when the unit is not being used to bundle said rope (62). A hole (29) is provided in strap portion (11) so unit may be hung on a nail or other protruding object. A flap (23) in the grip portion is also provided. This not only strengthens the grip portion (8), but also displaces the weight of the load throughout a persons hand (59).Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1990Date of Patent: March 17, 1992Inventor: Richard P.
