Abstract: A photovoltaic glazing assembly including first and second substrates, at least one being formed of a light transmitting material. The assembly includes a photovoltaic coating over at least the central region of a surface of the first substrate or the second substrate. In some embodiments, a seal system encloses a gas space between the substrates and optionally has a thickness of between approximately 0.01 inch and approximately 0.1 inch. Certain embodiments provide a flexible and electrically non-conductive retention film over the photovoltaic coating. Additionally or alternatively, the assembly can have a peripheral seal system with relative dimensions in certain ranges. Advantageous manufacturing methods are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20090233020
Abstract: A glazing assembly includes a functional coating extending over, and being adhered to a central region of an inner major surface of a first substrate, which opposes a second substrate, whose inner surface includes a central region facing the functional coating; a spacer member, which is directly adhered to aligned peripheries of the inner major surfaces, joins the substrates, such that an airspace is enclosed between the central regions thereof. The spacer member may be pre-formed from a material having properties that result in a relatively low moisture vapor transmission rate therethrough, and may have a pre-formed footprint that matches a shape of the periphery of each of the substrates. A silane primer may be applied to the peripheries of the substrates to improve hydrolytic stability of the adhesion between the substrates and the spacer member.

  • Publication number: 20070298328
Abstract: A method for the formation of a patterned resist layer on a substrate surface by patternwise irradiation with actinic radiation. The first step of the method is formation of a coating layer comprising a substituted triphenylene compound having a diameter of between 1 and 3 nm, a sensitizer which increases the sensitivity of the exposed layer to the actinic radiation used in a subsequent irradiation step and a cross-linker on the substrate surface. Subsequently the coating layer is irradiated patternwise, and unirradiated areas of the coating layer are removed. A resist material comprising a solution of: (i) as the principal resist material a triphenylene derivative having a diameter of from 1 to 3 rim, (ii) a sensitizer which increases the sensitivity of the resist material to actinic radiation, and (iii) a cross-linker capable of cross-linking molecules of the triphenyl derivative, the cross-linker optionally being constituted by a moiety attached to the triphenylene derivative.

  • Patent number: 6380965
Abstract: The invention relates to a tape printing apparatus for printing an image on an image receiving tape. In order to detect characteristics of the tape thus avoiding representation means on a tape cassette, it is proposed to have detecting means for detecting-markings provided on the image receiving tape, which provide information on a characteristic of the tape; and the tape printing apparatus is controlled in accordance with the detected characteristics. Alternatively, it is proposed to have monitoring means for monitoring the speed of the image receiving tape, which detect marking on the image receiving tape whereby the printing means is controlled in dependence on the detected speed. Consequently, the exact tape speed is considered for printing purposes, even when slippage between driving means and tape occurs.
