  • Patent number: 8520687
Abstract: A method for identifying alternate end-to-end media paths through internet protocol realms using substitute session description protocol parameters is disclosed. The method includes receiving an session description protocol offer, including a list of previously traversed through internet protocol realms. The method continues with determining the next internet protocol realm for a media path based on unspecified signaling criteria. Finally, the method includes that if the next internet protocol realm to be traversed through is on the list of previously traversed through internet protocol realms, bypassing at least one border gateway associated with the current and previously traversed through internet protocol realms.

  • Patent number: 7978683
Abstract: The method provides for a first network controller, operating according to a first radio technology, to form and send a relay message to a second network controller, operating according to a different, second radio technology. The relay message includes an embedded message for the second network controller. The embedded message may be a transition message requesting transition of a packet switched call for a mobile station handled by the first network controller to a call for the mobile station handled by the second network controller. The method further provides selection of another wireless element for service at a wireless unit, using a current wireless element. A wireless unit receives a message identifying at least one other wireless element, available to the wireless unit and to which a wireless element currently in communication with the wireless unit is also in communication with and the wireless unit selects another wireless element for possible future service based on the message.

  • Patent number: 7366514
Abstract: By obtaining the address of a circuit switching controller in a network with which a mobile station is registered, a packet call controller instructs the circuit switching controller to send notification of when a handoff request is received for a mobile station by the circuit switching controller. The handoff request is for transferring a packet switched call to the circuit switching controller as a circuit switched call. The notification request includes an identifier, which the circuit switching controller uses in notifying the packet call controller of the handoff request. In response to the notification, the packet call controller re-establishes call control and bearer paths between the call endpoints.

  • Patent number: 7353021
Abstract: Apparatus in one example comprises network controller(s) that serve to communicatively couple first network component with second network component. The first network component sends signaling message for the second network component to one or more of the network controller(s). The signaling message comprises indication of specific network connection(s) usable by the first network component. One or more of the network controller(s) serve to replace the indication of the specific network connection(s) usable by the first network component in the signaling message with wild card network connection information. The one or more of the network controller(s) serve to send the signaling message that comprises the wild card network connection information to the second network component. The wild card network connection information indicates the second network component is allowed to indicate to one or more of the network controller(s) specific network connection(s) usable by the second network component.

  • Publication number: 20080056236
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for signaling between an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and a multi-mode terminal using concise primitives to support the use of IMS-based services while the multi-mode terminal is attached to either the packet switched (PS) domain or to the circuit switched (CS) domain, or moves between these domains. The present invention enables the maintenance of services state in only the IMS and in the multi-mode terminal, thus avoiding the creation or transfer of services state information as the multi-mode terminal moves between the PS and CS domains.

  • Patent number: 7301938
Abstract: In the method, a packet call controller establishes a bearer path between the end point and the second network when a call transfer request associated with the mobile station is received from a network providing circuit switched communication. The call transfer request is triggered by a circuit voice call origination from the mobile station that includes an identifier that the packet call controller uses in recognizing that the call transfer request requests transfer of a packet switched call to a circuit switched call on the network.

  • Patent number: 7295843
Abstract: An apparatus in one example comprises a server component that sends one or more signals to cause an allocation of one or more network resources for an active call terminated to a mobile telephone upon initiation of a handoff. The handoff is between a packet-switched portion of a mobile switching center and a circuit-switched portion of a mobile switching center. The one or more network resources provide a translation between the packet-switched portion of the mobile switching center and the circuit-switched portion of the mobile switching center.

  • Patent number: 7068619
Abstract: In a mobile station-mobile receiver arrangement a method and apparatus for a radio link control (RLC) protocol that allows partial recovery of data for streaming services. The maximum number of retransmissions allowed by the method for each RLC block is a function of the maximum delivery delay required by the streaming service and the round trip delay.

  • Patent number: 7031747
Abstract: An apparatus in one example comprises a serving mobile switching center feature server and one or more internet protocol multimedia subsystem components. The serving mobile switching center feature server translates between a call control message originated by or terminated to a mobile telephone and an internet protocol based procedure message. The one or more internet protocol multimedia subsystem components serve to propagate the internet protocol based procedure message. The one or more internet protocol multimedia subsystem components provide packet-switched switching functions to the serving mobile switching center feature server based on the internet protocol based procedure message.

  • Patent number: 7006477
Abstract: A system and method for providing wireless time division multiplexed communications in which time is divided into a plurality of frames and each frame is divided into N data bursts, which has a first multiplexer defining a channel as a series of bursts that occur periodically every N bursts once per frame; a second multiplexer defining a sub-channel as every Mth burst of said channel; and a transmitter transmitting said channel and sub-channel from a first station to a second station. A new interleaving 0246/1357 method is used by the system which is just as good as the known 0123/4567 method when ideal frequency hopping is used, and 0246/1357 has better performance when non-ideal frequency hopping or no frequency hopping is used.

  • Patent number: 6996087
Abstract: A communication system includes User Equipment (111), Radio Access Network (RAN) (121), a packet-switched domain (131), an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) (141), a circuit-switched domain (151), a Domain Name System (DNS) (165), a Charging Gateway Function (CGF) (134), an EIR (135), a Transport Signaling Gateway (T-SGW) (146), and a Roaming Signaling Gateway (R-SGW) (147). The CS domain (151) includes an interworking Mobile Switching Center (iMSC) (201). The iMSC (201) translates the CS domain registration, call control, feature control, and feature invocation procedures associated with the access technology to standard SIP procedures. The media gateway (MGW) (173) under the control of the iMSC (201) converts the air interface media flow into a packet stream that is managed by SIP procedures within the IMS (141). The iMSC (201) thereby allows for interworking between circuit-switched and packet-switched domains for call terminations.

  • Patent number: 6963544
Abstract: A system for providing statistical multiplexing of speech, other real-time data services and non-real-time data services for point to point and point to multipoint communications. The system has fast access and assignment procedures that allow the multiplexing of real-time, delay-critical data services with non-real-time data services. Continuity of periodic control channels across speech talkspurt and silence periods for conversational voice is maintained to carry signal measurement reports, channel quality feedback, and “comfort” noise information between different parts of the system.
