Patent number: 10812648Abstract: A device includes a context engine and a notification engine. The context engine determines a context indicator relative to received input while the notification engine selects, based on the context indicator and the received input, at least one type of notification from different types of notifications. A wearable electronic arrangement selectively communicates, and senses for different types of single user response to, at least a portion of the received input via the selected type of notification. The context engine receives feedback regarding the sensible different types of single user response to at least partially determine the context indicator.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2016Date of Patent: October 20, 2020Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Michael W. Publication number: 20060085418Abstract: A system and method are provided for providing a shared RAM cache of a database, accessible by multiple processes. By sharing a single cache rather than local copies of the database, memory is saved and synchronization of data accessed by different processes is assured. Synchronization between the database and the shared cache is assured by using a unidirectional notification mechanism between the database and the shared cache. Client APIs within the processes search the data within the shared cache directly, rather than by making a request to a database server. Therefore server load is not affected by the number of requesting applications and data fetch time is not affected by Inter-Process Communication delay or by additional context switching. A new synchronization scheme allows multiple processes to be used in building and maintaining the cache, greatly reducing start up time.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 13, 2005Publication date: April 20, 2006Applicant: ALCATELInventors: Richard Piper, Mark Pilon, Felix Landry

Patent number: 6551674Abstract: A multilayer film suitable for cook-in end use includes an outer layer that includes a homo- or co-polymer of propylene and, directly adhered to the outer layer, a layer that includes at least one of: (a) an ethylene/alkyl acrylate copolymer having a high melting point, (b) propylene/&agr;-olefin copolymer having a lower propylene mer content than the outer layer and having a high Vicat softening point, and (c) an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer with at least 15% vinyl acetate mer content. The film exhibits good seal strength and good adhesion between the two layers, even in areas where the film is sealed, even after the film is oriented, even when the film is subjected to the elevated temperatures involved in cook-in procedures, and even where the film is subjected to, e.g., grease from fatty foods. The film also can include one or more other layers including, for example, bulk layers, O2-barrier layers, and/or abuse layers.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2001Date of Patent: April 22, 2003Assignee: Cryovac, Inc.Inventors: Graham Richard Piper, Ram Kumar Ramesh

Patent number: 4066858Abstract: A vertical float switch, suitable for use as a low water cut-off control or the like, having differential adjustment means is disclosed. The float switch includes a hollow housing forming a float chamber which communicates with a hot water boiler vessel by way of vertically spaced equalizing lines. A non-magnetic sealing tube extends vertically away from the housing and communicates with the float chamber of the housing. A float rod is slidably mounted within the housing by way of a generally cylindrical guiding collar. A float is mounted to the lower end of the rod for translating the rod in accordance with the level of the water within the float chamber. An armature of magnetic material is fixedly mounted to the other end of the rod for translation with the tube in accordance with the level of the water within the boiler. A switch frame is clamped at a predetermined point along the tube, and includes a bracket pivotally mounted thereon for translation toward and away from the tube.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1975Date of Patent: January 3, 1978Assignee: International Telephone and Telegraph CorporationInventors: Jack Richard Piper, Leo W.
