  • Patent number: 6957960
Abstract: A kit for demonstrating Archimedes' principle, comprising a tub having an overflow spout, such that when fluid reaches the overflow spout, all additional fluid added to the tub will flow out the overflow spout; and a stable boat sized to float in the tub without touching the sides of the tub. The kit may further comprise a balance beam which can balance a tub edge, wherein one end of the balance beam has an attachment mechanism for attaching a counter weight, and the other end has an attachment mechanism for attaching a sample weight, such that when the sample weight is attached, and the balance beam is balancing on the tub edge, the sample weight will be submerged in the fluid. There is also a method for using this kit to demonstrate Archimedes' principle both for the buoyancy of a floating body, and the buoyancy for objects that don't float.

  • Patent number: 5351730
Abstract: A carpenter's workbench is disclosed comprising a freestanding frame body (4) supported by four legs (6). A longitudinal channel (46) of T-shape profile and a V-shape groove (48) extend into a top surface (14) of the body (4) and are adapted to receive and render stationary lengths of lumber and tubular pipe, respectively, such that ends which overhang the workbench may be severed. Alternatively, a length of two by four inch wood may be situated horizontally and secured within an upper portion (50) of the channel (46) to provide a wood work surface if desired. Peripherally located surfaces (28, 36, 64) are provided having means (30, 32, 38, 62) for securing work tools to the workbench. Storage compartments (40, 42) are further provided to store hardware.

The rear wall (13) and the side walls (11, 12) extend upwardly from a bottom surface (31) and are provided with windows (26, 27, 28) therein. Front pedestals (29, 30) and rear pedestals (32, 33) are positioned at the front and rear of the side walls (11, 12) and have inclined upper newspaper supporting surfaces (34, 35, 36, 37) all lying in the same plane. The bottom surfaces (31) is provided with raised stop surfaces (39, 40, 41) and inclined ramp surfaces (43, 44, 45, 46) to locate a ball of twine used to bundle the newspaper (P).

  • Patent number: 4871064
Abstract: A container for storing a tape cassette of the type having a pair of spaced tape reel hubs. Each hub has a bottom wall and a cylindrical sidewall which define a recess in the hub. The storage container includes enclosure means for receiving and enclosing a cassette in the container. Toggle pairs are mounted on a bottom wall of the storage container and project into the hub recesses through an aligned access opening formed in a bottom wall of the tape cassette upon placing the cassette into the container. The toggle pairs are engaged by the bottom wall of the tape reel hub upon placement of a cassette into the storage container and move outwardly toward an expanded position and into engagement with the cylindrical sidewall of the reel hubs to prevent rotation of the hubs and resultant unwinding of and possible damage to the tape contained thereon.
