  • Patent number: 7639697
Abstract: Various aspects of apparatuses and methods for enabling a subscriber premise network interface device (NID) to facilitate communication services including digitally derived voice services to be facilitated between a central office and a subscriber premise are disclosed herein. In accordance with one embodiment of the disclosures herein, such a method includes facilitating a downstream DSL voice channel transmission process at a subscriber premise Network Interface Device (NID) and facilitating an upstream DSL voice channel transmission process at the subscriber premise NID. The downstream DSL voice channel transmission process facilitates converting a voice component of a downstream DSL data stream to a corresponding downstream analog voice signal. The upstream DSL voice channel transmission process facilitates converting an upstream analog voice signal to an upstream voice component of an upstream DSL data stream.

  • Patent number: 5991814
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling command line transfer to a network element. The method and apparatus allow for transfer of command lines such as command lines in the Transaction Language 1 syntax, to a designated network element based upon a wait duration as well as based upon the maximum number of outstanding command lines for which acknowledgement has not yet been received from the network element to whom the command line was directed. As long as the maximum number of outstanding unacknowledged command lines is less than the maximum number set, command lines are transferred to the network element after waiting an amount of time equal to the wait duration. The overall result is that command lines can be directed to network elements with assurance that the commands will be properly executed by the network element.

  • Patent number: 5267309
Abstract: A line unit, used in a line shelf having a line shelf processor and common logic, is provided with an EEPROM device for storing information relative to the line unit. The stored information includes line unit type identification codes, auto provisioning data, gain and equalization adjustment data and signaling translation tables. The data contained within the EEPROM may be utilized by the line shelf processor to provide automatic initialization and provisioning of the line unit when first inserted into the line shelf, and automatic signaling translation so that line unit signaling becomes compatible with a transmission facility connected to the line shelf. The need for factory preset resistors installed in the line unit may be eliminated by storing within the EEPROM a required gain setting.
