  • Publication number: 20070274796
Abstract: A key cutting machine having a vacuum port connected to the housing and capable of removeably connecting a vacuum tube thereto so that when the vacuum tube is connected to the vacuum port the vacuum tube is capable of collecting key shavings created during a key cutting operation and, when the vacuum tube is disconnected from vacuum port, the vacuum tube can be used to collect key shavings on or surrounding the key cutting machine. Additional improvements or features of a key cutting machine are also described.

  • Publication number: 20070224008
Abstract: Apparatus, methods, and other embodiments associated with a key duplication machine are described. In one embodiment, an assembly for duplicating a master key includes an optical imaging device, a logic, a clamping assembly, and a cutting member. The optical imaging device is capable of capturing an optical image of at least a portion of the master key. The logic is capable of determining a key pattern of the master key from the optical image of the master key. The clamping assembly is capable of clamping a key blank and the cutting member is capable of cutting a key pattern into said key blank.

  • Publication number: 20070217880
Abstract: A key cutting machine is provided for cutting a key blank from a master key. The key cutting machine comprises a first cutting member that rotates about a substantially horizontal axis for cutting a key pattern on a key blank and a second cutting member that rotates about a substantially vertical axis for cutting a key pattern on a key blank. Additional improvements or features of a key cutting machine are also described.

  • Publication number: 20060059964
Abstract: The present invention generally provides apparatus and methods for tracking, counting and inventorying keys throughout the supply chain, from manufacturing through retailing to the end user. In addition, the present invention provides apparatus and methods for improving the accuracy of duplicating keys. The apparatus and methods generally rely on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, where information is stored to and collected from RFID tags that are located proximate to keys. The apparatus and methods provided for in this invention improve efficiency and accuracy in the key supply chain.

  • Patent number: 5660509
Abstract: A key duplicating machine having a key clamping assembly for supporting a key blank and a customer key to be duplicated, a key cutter assembly having a cutter wheel for cutting a pattern on the supported key blank and a follower for tracing a tooth patter on the supported customer key, a housing having a front wall, a top wall and a chip collection drawer lcoated below the front and top walls, the key clamping assembly being mounted on the front wall and the key cutter assembly being mounted on the top wall such that no obstructions exist between the key cutter assembly and the chip collection drawer located below the top wall, so that chips formed from a key cutting operation by the key cutter assembly fall unimpeded to the chip collection drawer, and surfaces which may collect the chips are minimized.

  • Patent number: 5538374
Abstract: A key duplicating machine which automatically liens the original and blank keys, clamping the keys in alignment with the appropriate clamping pressure, cuts double-sided keys in a single pass, prevents operation of the machine without the presence of the original and blank keys in the machine and which is capable of accepting virtually any type of key shape for duplication. The invention includes a single-sided key duplicating module having a motor driven cutter wheel which is slidably mounted on a travel table that, in turn, is slidably mounted on a base plate. The travel table includes a motor driven stacked cam assembly which engages fixed cam followers in the base plate, so when rotated, the cam assembly, travel table and cutter wheels are moved first in a cutting pass, then in a return pass with respect to the original and blank keys. The cam assembly also includes a cam follower which displaces the cutting wheel sidewardly away from the blank key on the return pass.
