    Abstract: An apparatus for displacing a high viscous substance, such as grease, which comprises a positive displacement-type pump. The chamber of the pump is in communication with a second chamber defined by a tubular sleeve that is slidably displaceable on the body of the pump, thereby rendering the volume of the second chamber variable and, as such, providing for effective displacement of grease into the chamber of the pump via a valve arrangement. A closure member is disposed to control charging of the second chamber with grease and the displacement of such grease from the second chamber into the chamber of the pump. Also, simultaneously with the charging of the chamber the pump can displace grease therefrom for lubricating or other applications.

    Abstract: The disclosed stripe-applying ("striping") method and apparatus for applying a curable coating composition (preferably the two-part type) to a paved surface comprises a movable vehicle suitable for traveling over that surface. The vehicle carries a first nozzle for applying a pressurized water spray to the paved surface, a second nozzle for applying an air blast to the paved surface, and a third nozzle for applying the coating composition under pressure to the section of the paved surface previously cleaned by the water spray and air blast. In addition, a glass bead applicator drops a plurality of glass beads onto the coating composition after it has been applied to the paved surface. The two components which comprise the coating composition are heated in a system having selectively operable valves for continuously circulating these components when a striping operation is not taking place.

    Abstract: The disclosed coating method has the ability to satisfy some or all of the very troublesome requirements of highway marking or striping and is therefore useful to mark or stripe paved surfaces. The method involves:(a) supplying to the point of application an amine co-curative which includes an aliphatic amine (e.g. trimethyl hexamethylene diamine) and a cycloaliphatic amine (e.g. cyclohexane-bis[methylamine]);(b) supplying to the point of application a suitable curable liquid vicinal epoxide composition;(c) applying the co-curative and the liquid epoxide to the paved surface (preferably after intimately mixing the co-curative and the liquid epoxide); and(d) permitting the resulting mixture to cure in situ on the paved surface.

    Abstract: The disclosed coating system comprises a curable liquid epoxide and an amine hardener or co-curative. The amine co-curative comprises a blend of an aliphatic amine (e.g. trimethyl hexamethylene diamine) and a cycloaliphatic amine (e.g. cyclohexane-bis[methylamine]). This coating system, when suitably combined with a reflectorizing material, has the ability to satisfy some or all of the very troublesome requirements of a highway marking or striping composition and is therefore useful in methods for marking or striping paved surfaces.
