  • Patent number: 5273741
Abstract: An oral composition, such as a paste or gel dentifrice or a liquid mouthwash, containing a substantially water insoluble non-cationic antibacterial agent, such as triclosan, which, when used to clean the teeth or rinse the mouth, acts to decrease plaque on the teeth, is packaged in a dispensing container or bottle which includes a solid polymeric material, such as polyfluoroethylene, which is compatible with the antibacterial agent so that excessive loss of anti-plaque activity of such agent on storage is avoided. Alternatively, various other polymers may be employed as container parts, which normally would cause excessive losses of anti-plaque action of the antibacterial agent in the composition but such action is countered by the presence of a stabilizer, such as a terpene, e.g., limonene, in the oral composition formula. Also described is a method for inhibiting development of plaque on teeth.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 30, 1992
Date of Patent: December 28, 1993
    Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive Company
Inventors: Abdul Gaftar, Richard S. Robinson, Jeffrey Miller, Chimpiramma Potini, Michael A. Collins, Theresa G. Shackil

  • Patent number: 5116602
Abstract: An antiplaque oral composition containing a low concentration of a sesquiterpene alcohol flavor compound to inhibit the formation of dental plaque in the presence of an additive selected from the group consisting of benzoic acid, a preservative, and a polycarboxylate and mixtures thereof, in an oral vehicle having a low pH of about 3-5.

  • Patent number: 4204323
Abstract: A dental tray is provided using a molded plastic. One form of tray includes buccal and lingual walls defining a series of recesses or indentations on opposed wall faces. When in use, a flexible impression support is applied to the walls and is coated with a suitable impression cement which enters the recesses and secures the impression support thereto. After an impression has been taken, the impression support is stripped from the tray and a mold is made therefrom. The use of recesses in the walls facilitates manufacturing of an inexpensive device of plastic using high speed, injection molding techniques.
