  • Patent number: 8290726
Abstract: A Built-In Test (BIT) for a photoconductive photodiode is performed using the health or characteristics of the photodiode's parasitic capacitance as a “proxy” for the health or characteristics of the photodiode itself. A failure or degradation of the photodiode manifests as a similar failure or degradation of the parasitic capacitance. Under normal operating conditions, the photoconductive photodiode responds to incident photons from a target by generating a photocurrent signal at its cathode. A processor processes the signals from one or more photodiodes to evaluate characteristics of the target. To perform the BIT, a time-varying voltage signal is applied at the photodiode's anode. This signal is coupled through the parasitic capacitance to produce a test current signal at the photodiode's anode. The processor processes the signal to evaluate the health or characteristics of the parasitic capacitance and thus the photodiode.

  • Patent number: 8208813
Abstract: To enable signals to be transmitted from a fixed machine part to a machine part opposite same which rotates on a hollow shaft or vice versa, light must be able to be transmitted or received over the entire circumference. This is achieved by using an optical waveguide which, unlike conventional optical waveguides, is designed to couple out some of the light passing through it and, conversely, to allow light to enter, at any locations on its circumference.

  • Publication number: 20120050932
Abstract: A switch is disclosed, in particular a circuit breaker for low voltages. In at least one embodiment, the switch includes a conductor, an electronic tripping unit (ETU) which trips the switch when a current limit value is exceeded, the power supply of the electronic tripping unit including current transformers, with a first winding which is connected to the electronic tripping unit (ETU) forming the secondary side of the current transformer and the conductor forming the first primary side of the current transformer, the conductor supplying electrical power to the current transformer when the current varies over time. In order to ensure power is supplied to the tripping unit (ETU) even in modes of operation in which too little power is provided by the first winding, for example in the case of a direct current, small alternating currents, a pulsed direct current etc.

  • Patent number: 8100584
Abstract: Methods and systems are generally described for measuring a voltage used by an imaging system to generate radiation used in imaging. In embodiments, different datasets are acquired using different degrees of attenuation of the radiation. The differently attenuated datasets are processed to derive a ratio of the differential attenuation. The attenuation ratio is processed to derive a measure of the voltage used by the imaging system to generate the radiation used to acquire the different datasets.

  • Patent number: 7981048
Abstract: The invention disclosed herein provides a system and method for diagnosing lower urinary system conditions by receiving urodynamic data and subjective symptomatic impressions concerning a patient. The system and method then assigns weighted point values to the urodynamic data, for example, urethal pressure profiles due to sphincter contraction conditions such as urgency (2) and stress incontinence (4), and the subjective symptomatic impressions, quantifies norms for lower urinary system function, as a whole or in part, and quantifies recognized pathologies of lower urinary system conditions as degrees of departure from the norms. The system and method then determines a lower urinary system condition diagnosis of the patient, as a function of the degrees of departure from the norms, by invoking a set of rules to compare the weighted point values assigned and the quantified norms.
