  • Patent number: 11239933
Abstract: A method for transporting Ethernet frame packets assembled from a constant bit rate (CBR) client stream from an ingress network node to an egress network node, each Ethernet frame packet including a payload region having a number of bytes of CBR client data from the CBR client stream determined by a client rate value of the CBR client stream. The method including synchronizing a reference clock signal and a ToD in the ingress network node to a packet-based time distribution mechanism, independently synchronizing a reference clock signal and a ToD in the egress network node to the packet-based time distribution mechanism, for an Ethernet frame packet assembling a presentation time packet including a sequence number and a presentation ToD for the Ethernet frame packet, and transmitting the Ethernet frame packets and the presentation time packet to the egress network node over the packet transport network.

  • Patent number: 10432553
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for transparently transmitting multiple constant bitrate (CBR) data streams over a packet network with reduced delay. Example embodiments provide packetizers and depacketizers for multiplexing and demultiplexing multiple common public radio interface (CPRI) data streams for transport between remote units and baseband units over packet networks. The systems and methods disclosed herein use time-division-multiplexing to map multiple CBR clients directly into a packet such that each CBR client can be recovered at the destination with its original clock and with information that allows its residence time in the packet domain to be calculated. The systems and methods disclosed herein allow packet based networks, such as the existing Packet Transport Network (PTN), to be used for C-RAN fronthaul applications with strict end-to-end delay requirements.

  • Patent number: 9473261
Abstract: A method of enabling transport of symmetric latency-sensitive constant-bit-rate (CBR) client data streams over an optical transport network (OTN) is provided. The method performs, utilizing an OTN wrapping device, an OTN wrapping operation on a received first constant-bit-rate (CBR) client data stream to form a first framed OTN data stream. The method determines a static wrapping delay induced on the first CBR client data stream by the OTN wrapping operation, performs, utilizing the OTN wrapping device, an OTN unwrapping operation on a received second framed OTN data stream to extract a second CBR client data stream from the second framed OTN data stream, determines a static unwrapping delay induced on the second framed OTN data stream by the OTN unwrapping operation, and equalizes the static wrapping and unwrapping delays by adjusting, at the OTN wrapping device, at least one of the static wrapping and unwrapping delays.

  • Patent number: 6345052
Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for guaranteeing that transmit cell available signals transmitted from an ATM-PHY interface device conform to a communication protocol. A previous transmit cell available signal from the previous clock cycle is stored and a transmit status signal and a transmit enable signal for the current clock cycle are sampled. One of the transmit status signal and the previous transmit cell available signal are selected as the new transmit cell available signal based upon the state of the transmit enable signal and the transmit status signal.
