  • Patent number: 6938421
Abstract: A system for the control of an indirectly heated gas turbine comprising a primary system of controlling the temperature of heated compressed gas entering the expander, and an independent secondary system which includes a safety valve for instantaneous release of heated compressed gas to the atmosphere. The primary system controls system gas temperature and power output by modulating a flow of unheated compressed gas which bypasses the heat exchanger and mixes with the heated gas leaving the heat exchanger to produce a lower temperature gas entering the expander. The secondary system provides a backup means of overspeed prevention, and includes a safety valve to instantly discharge to the atmosphere hot compressed gas upstream of the expander by being responsive to the speed of the turbine. The safety valve includes a frangible membrane clamped between parallel flanges within the ducting, and further includes a dagger assembly for rupturing the membrane.

  • Patent number: 5668929
Abstract: Speech actuated security devices and methods whereby a lock, or other security or access device, may be actuated by a speech input thereto, but without disclosure of the actual code where doing so to those hearing the code words spoken during use of the security device. The security device includes a microphone, a display for displaying a plurality of code elements, and a processor for controlling the display and analyzing the microphone signal to detect a proper sequence of code elements spoken by a user as detected by the microphone and to operate the security device in response thereto. The code elements are displayed on the display under processor control in various patterns.

  • Patent number: 4959734
Abstract: An interactive control system including a wide bandwidth, random access recorder including a recording which contains sequentially recorded discete sets of co-located video, audio and digital information including, for example, a question or other interrogation signal, and wherein at an end of a set of such co-located recorded information there would be recorded a multiplicity of digital signals, each signal being comprised of an "answer" portion and a "second location" portion. Further, circuitry is provided to halt the playback of the recording when an input from the user is required for the purposes of testing, measuring or selecting and where the recording medium is halted before the location of the multiplicity of digital signal portions is reached. Further, circuitry is provided for a digital response to the interrogation signal to be obtained from a manual or automatic operation and placed in a "response" digital storage register.

  • Patent number: 4602907
Abstract: A system for detecting the position of a light responsive pen with respect to a TV display wherein successive frames of a video recording are encoded by placing a lighted area in a different place on each such successive frame. Then, by determining the frame number of the frame appearing when there is a response from the light pen, the position of the pen is identified and an appropriate system response is initiated and controlled.

  • Patent number: 4099374
Abstract: A gas turbine set, a heat recovery boiler and a steam turbine are operated in a combined cycle to generate electric power. A gasifier generates fuel gas for the gas turbine from a reaction of fuel and compressed air supplied from the gas turbine. The booster compression process is regenerative, i.e. the air is cooled by the booster outlet air before entry to the booster and the booster outlet air is reheated by the booster inlet air prior to passage to the gasifier. Generated fuel gas is controllably heated by a heater using hot water from the heat recovery boiler. Gasifier process control is provided by a fuel ratio controller which varies the gasifier inlet fuel flow as gasifier inlet air flow varies with plant load changes.

  • Patent number: 3996671
Abstract: An instruction machine employing a multi-track (two channels on each track) tape recorder wherein analog instructions are recorded on one channel of a tape and control signals are recorded on the other channel. Control signals perform a number of functions and are recorded on a tape responsive to operation of a digital keyboard. Typically, an instructor would record a lecture on one channel and control signals (e.g. for reproduction of material recorded elsewhere) on the other channel, the control signals being positioned opposite points in a recorded lecture where some equipment control is desired, e.g. for providing supplemental displays or continuation of the lecture on another track. For example, a student might be questioned and the student required to indicate his answer by operation of the keyboard.

  • Patent number: 3969584
Abstract: A system for providing a record of each time any one of a plurality of remotely located locking devices is operated, as well as the number of the key used for each lock actuation. The disclosed system includes means located at each secured premises for sensing the actuation of the lock and the number of the actuation key; means for automatically telephoning to a central office the key number as well as a code which identifies the reporting facility; and means at the central office for recording this data and its time of receipt, and for providing a printout thereof.
