  • Patent number: 7374470
Abstract: A sharpening apparatus having at least one guide slot, a drive pulley drivingly coupled to a frame and at least one idler pulley rotatably coupled to a support member. The support member is pivotably coupled to the frame. The apparatus includes an endless abrading belt rotatable in a path over the drive pulley and the at least one idler pulley and a biasing member coupled to the frame for biasing the support member toward an engaged position. Pivotal movement of the support member adjusts tension in the belt. A tool is traversed into the guide slot for sharpening a cutting edge thereof. The belt and support member respond to application and release of a force applied to the belt by the cutting edge to decrease and increase, respectively, belt speed to preclude overheating of the cutting edge and damage to the belt and cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 5652381
Abstract: An ignition system test instrument used on spark ignited engines includes a housing having a spark chamber. A sleeve with an open and a closed end is slidably mounted over the housing. A compression chamber is formed between the sleeve closed end and the housing. An air passage connecting the spark and compression chambers extends through the housing. The sleeve can be moved relative to the housing, from a lower to an upper position to compress the air in the compression chamber and the spark chamber. A pair of electrodes is mounted to the housing and extend into the spark chamber to form a spark gap. The electrodes are connected in circuit to an engine ignition voltage source. With the spark gap under pressure, the engine can be turned over and the arc (if any) between the electrodes can be observed. A pressure gauge is carried by the housing for sensing and indicating the air pressure in the spark chamber.

  • Patent number: 5593257
Abstract: An apparatus for removing hardened substances such as putty or the like from a window sash without removing the window sash from its frame and without requiring a separate external guide comprises a rotary cutter member with a cutting blade and a sleeve member including a guide ledge extending forwardly from a portion of the front face of the sleeve member to engage a surface of the window sash to position the cutting blade relative to the putty holding surface of the sash in the direction perpendicular to the putty holding surface. The apparatus may further include an extension member and a stabilizing member to be used when a hardened substance is to be removed from a sash having associated with it a storm window or the like that would otherwise interfere with an electric drill or other power source and prevent the cutter blade from reaching the putty.

  • Patent number: 5036626
Abstract: A machine for sharpening knives or similar cutting tools includes an endless abrasive belt and a tool engaging structure for supporting and guiding a tool into proper engagement with the belt. The tool engaging structure is located adjacent a portion of the belt path at which the belt is unsupported from behind so that as the tool is pushed against the belt the belt deflects inwardly. Damage to the tool and/or belt due to too large a force being applied between the tool and the belt is avoided by a pivotal unloader means which engages the tool and moves it away from the belt if an attempt is made to push the tool too far inwardly.

  • Patent number: 4742649
Abstract: An improved belt tracking adjustment mechanism for a belt type abrading or other machine having a frame, a drive pulley, an idler pulley and an endless belt trained over the pulleys includes a support member which supports the idler pulley for rotation about an axis fixed relative to the support member. The support member is itself attached to the frame by a single screw which as a first function supports the member for pivotal movement relative to the frame about the screw axis, which extends parallel to the idler pulley axis, to vary the spacing between the idler and drive pulley axes. A spring biases the member in the belt tightening direction and the moments imposed on the member by the belt and spring hold one edge of the member against a flat face of the frame to form another hinge or pivot axis between the frame and member. A second function of the screw is to provide adjustment of the position of the member about this hinge axis to achieve proper tracking of the belt over the pulleys.

  • Patent number: 4570124
Abstract: A portable self-contained ignition system test diagnostic instrument for testing single cylinder and multi-cylinder spark ignited engines is disclosed comprising a housing having an interior spark chamber, a transparent portion permitting visual observation of the spark chamber, an outer portion performing an exterior air pump chamber, and an air passageway connecting the outer portion and the spark chamber, a reciprocal air pump movably mounted about the outer portion of the housing to form an air pump chamber therebetween for pumping compressed air through the air passageway to pressurize the spark chamber upon reciprocation of the pump, a check valve connected to the air passageway, a spark plug having a pair of electrodes forming a spark gap of predetermined size and mounted to the housing so that the spark gap is positioned within the spark chamber and visible through the transparent housing, a ground wire for detachably grounding the spark plug to an engine ground point, and a pressure gauge for indicat

  • Patent number: 4188723
Abstract: A window putty removal apparatus is provided which can be conveniently utilized with various window sizes and configurations without the necessity of removing the window sash from its frame. The apparatus includes an elongated flexible guide strip of variable effective length so that it can be applied to the stiles and muntins of different sized windows without removing the windows and a plurality of manual fasteners for securing the guide strip to the window sash adjacent to a strip of putty to be removed. The apparatus also includes a cutting member having a cutter mounted on a shank driven by a rotary power tool and an adapter element rotatably mounted on the shank and cooperable with the guide strip for guiding the cutter through the strip of putty as the power tool is moved longitudinally relative to the guide strip to remove the putty from the window.
