Abstract: A double decker article carrier for mounting to a receiver assembly includes a frame having a pair of mounting bars for securing the frame to the receiver assembly and a pair of support members. A first platform is carried by the mounting bars and a second platform is carried by the support members. The platforms are carried in an aligned, stacked configuration with one over the other.

Abstract: An assembly (10) for mounting an accessory to a vehicle includes a central frame member (12), a pair of vehicle mounting brackets (30), a first accessory receiver (40) and a first accessory receiver mounting bracket (40) secured to both the first accessory receiver (40) and the central frame member (12). The mounting bracket may assume the form of a single plate or a pair of cooperating plates.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a trailer hitch receiver including a cross member, a hitch receiver box carried on the cross member and a pair of opposed mounting brackets. Each of the opposed mounting brackets includes a first mounting arrangement or series of apertures that secures the mounting brackets to the cross member in a first position and a second mounting arrangement or second set of mounting apertures for securing the mounting brackets to main frame member in a second position. Additionally, each mounting bracket includes a notch in the forward edge thereof which provides the necessary clearance for mounting the mounting brackets inboard of mounting flanges carried by the cross member. Accordingly, the mounting brackets may also be mounted in an inboard or outboard position as necessary to meet the needs of any particular application.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided for tightening a draw bar, hitch bar or accessory mounting post in a receiver box of a trailer hitch receiver assembly. The apparatus broadly includes a body having an intermediate section with a threaded aperture and a pair of projecting mounting lugs. The apparatus also includes a threaded mounting bolt for engaging the threaded aperture in the body. The body is essentially W-shaped including a pair of shoulders on the intermediate section and a beaded tip at the end of each projecting mounting lug which securely seat and hold the tightening apparatus in the lumen of a tubular hitch bar. The threaded connecting pin is tightened in the threaded aperture in the intermediate section of the body when the hitch bar is positioned in the receiver box in order to tighten the hitch bar against the wall of the receiver box and prevent rattling.

Abstract: A trailer hitch assembly (10) includes a U-shaped frame (12), hitch receiver box (14) carried on the frame (12) and a pair of mounting brackets (28) for securing the frame to a towing vehicle. Upstanding bumper guards (40) are provided on the frame (12) at each end. The bumper guards (40) provide bumper and rear quaterpanel protection to the vehicle.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a jaw assembly and a fifth wheel hitch assembly incorporating that jaw assembly. The jaw assembly includes a control handle, a jaw bolt connected to the control handle and a biasing element. The jaw bolt includes an arcuate edge portion having a radius of curvature of between about 1.24 and about 3.24 inches. The fifth wheel hitch assembly includes a frame, a head assembly mounted on that frame and the above-described jaw assembly carried by that head assembly.

Either end of the spaced support members may be connected into the accessory receivers (52) so that the extender assembly (50) may be selectively secured in one of two positions.

The head assembly also includes low friction shoes, rollers or the like for mounting the head assembly on the spaced guide rails so that the head assembly is selectively displaceable between a towing position and a maneuvering position. A lock on the head assembly includes at least one bar latch, a biasing element and a cam for engaging the biasing element. The bar latch is received in the first aperture in the guide rail to releaseably lock the head assembly in the towing position and in the second aperture of the guide rail to releaseably lock the head assembly in the maneuvering position.
