  • Publication number: 20090185678
Abstract: The capability to encrypt or compress the traffic over network links, thus improving the security of the link on the performance of the links, and the capability to encrypt/decrypt data stored on the storage devices without requiring specialized hosts or storage devices. In a first embodiment, traffic to be routed over a selected link needing encryption and/or compression is routed to hardware which performs the encryption and/or compression and returned for transmission over the link. A complementary unit at the second end of the link routes the received frames to complementary hardware to perform the decryption and/or decompression. The recovered frames are then routed to the target device in a normal fashion. In a variation of this first embodiment the hardware is developed using an FPGA. This allows simple selection of the desired feature or features present in the switch. The switch can be easily configured to perform encryption, compression or both, allowing great flexibility to a system administrator.

  • Publication number: 20090141008
Abstract: A touch screen device comprising a display screen, an electromagnetic digitizer disposed behind the display screen for detecting stylus proximity and stylus coordinates, and an infrared touch device secured in front of the display screen for detecting the coordinates of an infrared opaque object. The touch screen device also includes a controller in electronic communication with the electromagnetic digitizer and the infrared touch device. The controller provides an output signal based upon the infrared opaque object coordinates detected by the infrared touch device during periods of time that the electromagnetic digitizer is not detecting stylus proximity and provides an output signal based upon the stylus coordinates detected by the electromagnetic digitizer during periods of time that the electromagnetic digitizer is detecting stylus proximity.

  • Publication number: 20080314631
Abstract: The embodiment of the invention is about a novel via structure which can be incorporated into printed circuit boards, integrated circuit packages, and integrated circuits in order to reduce crosstalk, to improve signal integrity and to achieve EM emission compliance. A 4-layer (2 signal layers and 2 power layers or 2 signal layers and 2 ground layers) circuit board assembly was used for demonstrating the effect of the novel via structure. The same concept can be applied to any multi-layer circuit board. Layers that have an electrical property can be added above, under, or within the basic 4-layer circuit board to achieve a multi-layer circuit board. For 2-layer and 3-layer circuit boards, a deformed version of the proposed via structure based upon the same concept will be needed for a coplanar waveguide configuration.

  • Publication number: 20080169125
Abstract: The embodiment of the invention is about a novel interconnection structure which can be incorporated into a variety of connectors, as well as other types of interconnections in order to reduce crosstalk, to improve signal integrity and to achieve EM emission compliance. A 4-via (2 signal vias, 1 power via, and 1 ground via) interconnection structure was used for demonstrating the effect of the novel interconnection structure. The same concept can be applied to any multi-via and multi-layer interconnection structure such as PCB, IC packaging circuit, or die circuit. Vias that have an electrical property can be added adjacent to the basic 4-via interconnection structure to achieve a multi-via interconnection structure. For 1-via (1 signal via or 1 power via), 2-via (1 signal via and 1 ground via or 1 signal via and 1 power via) and 3-via (1 signal via, 1 ground via, and 1 power via) interconnection structure, the proposed interconnection structure based upon the same concept can be applied as well.

  • Publication number: 20080066369
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to float devices useful for fishing that have flutes or ribs. The ribs can be generally oriented along a portion of the longitudinal axis of the apparatus in exemplary embodiments, though other configurations for the ribs are possible. The fluted ribs can be molded into the body of the float in exemplary embodiments. The fluted ribs can add stability to the float, helping the float track better, improving use in fast moving water, e.g., during trolling. Such fluted ribs can reduce a tendency of the float to spin in fast water. Additionally, bait can be added to the grooves created by the fluted ribs. The fluted ribs can also add volume to the float for a given weight or mass, which can improve the natural drifting of the float to better match the current speed of the surrounding water, mimicking natural bait.

  • Publication number: 20080016673
Abstract: An armature for a brush commutated electric motor having a distributed coil winding arrangement for reducing brush arcing and electro-magnetic interference (EMI). The winding pattern involves winding a first coil into a first pair of slots of the armature. A second coil having a first subcoil portion is then wound into the same slots as the first coil, while a second subcoil portion of the second coil is wound into a pair of slots that is offset by one slot position from the first pair of slots. The two subcoil portions have the same number of turns, and the total turns of the two subcoil portions equals the number of turns of the first coil. A third coil is then wound in the same slots as the second subcoil portion of the second coil. The third coil has the same number of turns as the first coil. This pattern is repeated around the armature.

  • Publication number: 20080008929
Abstract: A tool system with a battery pack and a device that is configured to be selectively coupled to the battery pack. The battery pack has first, second and third pack terminals. The device has a battery mount with a body that defines a well and first and second device terminals. The body defines a well into which the battery pack is removably received. The first and second device terminals extend outwardly from a proximal portion of the battery mount and engage the first and second pack terminals when the battery pack is fully inserted into the well. At least one of the first and second pack terminals and the first and second device terminals is a male terminal that is received into a corresponding one of the first and second pack terminals and the first and second device terminals. A longitudinal axis of each of the first, second and third pack terminals is arranged parallel to a longitudinal axis of the battery pack.
