  • Publication number: 20100201112
Abstract: A system for providing protection to a vehicle occupant during a side impact event is disclosed. The system includes an outer panel, which may be a vehicle door outer sheet metal, an inner panel, which may be a vehicle door trim, and an elongated structural member disposed between the outer panel and the inner panel. The elongated structural member is generally disposed perpendicularly with respect to the inner and outer panels and is in general alignment with the pelvic area of the adjacent occupant. The elongated structural member may have an I-beam configuration which extends from the outer panel to the inner panel in the occupant's pelvic zone. The elongated structure may progressively crush during the impact event while pushing the occupant. During an impact event, the elongated structure is pushed vehicle-inward and provides pelvic support to the adjacent occupant.

The component comprises a map pocket close-out portion, a pelvic bolster portion, and a bridge connecting the map pocket close-out portion and the pelvic bolster portion. The pelvic bolster portion is substantially hollow and preferably defines a box. The component includes a plurality of walls and the thickness of some of the walls is greater than the thickness of other walls. One or more of the walls may be angled. The map pocket close-out portion has a depth and the pelvic bolster portion has a depth. The depth of the map pocket close-out portion is greater than the depth of the pelvic bolster portion. The one-piece component is a molded component formed from a polymerized material.

  • Publication number: 20100064659
Abstract: A nacelle assembly includes a first portion having an outer fairing and a trailing edge, and a translatable variable area fan nozzle. The fan nozzle includes two or more nozzle segments, each nozzle segment having first and second opposed ends and a leading edge. The nozzle segments are selectively movable between a stowed position and one or more deployed positions. In the deployed position, an upstream bypass flow exit is formed between the trailing edge and the leading edge. The nacelle assembly further includes a guide mechanism for guiding the nozzle segments between the stowed position and the deployed position. A split beavertail failing shields the guide mechanism against air flow when the nozzle segments are in the stowed position.

  • Publication number: 20100052832
Abstract: A permanent electromagnetic indexing apparatus includes a chassis, a carrier pivoted to the chassis, and a plurality of magnetic sets. Each of the magnetic sets includes a first permanent magnet, a magnetic-conductive member, a second permanent magnet, and a magnetizing coil. Each of the first permanent magnets is mounted to the magnetic-conductive member. Each of the magnetic-conductive members is mounted onto the second permanent magnet. Each of the magnetizing coils surrounds the second permanent magnet. The magnetic sets are mounted to the carrier to enable the magnetic-conductive members to become a working surface for placing a workpiece thereon. When each of the magnetizing coils is electrically conducted, the polarity of each of the magnetic-conductive members can be changed and then the workpiece can be fixed to or removed from the working surface. In this way, the workability can be enhanced to enable preferably flexible and variable processing.

  • Patent number: 7561358
Abstract: A method for optimizing read/write channel parameters of a hard disk drive. The process includes measuring a first bit error rate of a head using an initial set of read/write channel parameters and varying all of the read/write channel parameters with a random jump. The random jump may be created from the generation of a random number. The process then includes measuring a second bit error rate of the head using the varied read channel parameters and accepting the varied read/write channel parameters as the new optimum, if the second bit error rate is lower than the first bit error rate.

  • Publication number: 20080174908
Abstract: A hard disk drive that performs a write verify routine to determine optimal write parameters for the heads of the drive. The write verify routines are performed until a successful write operation has occurred. • Publication number: 20070248020
Abstract: A method and apparatus for testing a data path in a network is described. The method may comprise creating a closed loop in the data path so that test data (e.g., fixed set of known data) sent from a local network device to a downstream network device is returned by the downstream network device. Thereafter, the test data is injected into the closed loop and selectively extracted from the loop. The test data may then be processed. The method may create the closed loop by closing a first loopback mechanism at the local network device and closing a second loopback mechanism at the downstream network device. In an example embodiment, the method determines whether the identified errors exceed a threshold number of errors. The method may be utilized to determine if fiber connectivity of the data path has failed when the identified errors exceed the threshold.

  • Publication number: 20060026237
Abstract: A method, system, means, and computer program code for providing instant message service. According to embodiments of the present invention, each instant message user has a HTTP URL as its unique identification. When the sender wants to chat with the receiver, just enter the receiver's URL for Instant Message in any Internet browser like surfing a website using any Internet access device, if the receiver is online, then they can chat to each other. Both parties do not have to download and install any instant message client software on their computers and not necessarily to know which instant message software the receiver is using. If the receiver is offline, then the sender can leave message to the receiver. The system can then forward the sender's message to receiver's email account or mobile device. Enterprise user can use the URL for Instant Message to provide live help for its customer and its website visitor.

  • Publication number: 20050252799
Abstract: A self-illuminated storage and carrying case for storage and transportation of generally laminar stored objects is described. The case includes at least one, but usually several, storage sheets, each sheet having pockets which are generally inclusive of the outline of the stored objects and adapted to retain the objects securely and in position. The pockets are adapted to allow any matter printed on the stored object to be read. Each sheet is secured by one edge into a cover having a front and back portion, and is retained between the front and back covers. On the front and/or back cover, illuminating elements having a generally cable-like form factor are affixed. The illuminating elements may be electro-luminescent filaments, fiber optic strands, or other illuminating elements of similar form. The light from each illuminating element is caused to fall onto the broad surface of the storage sheets, thereby illuminating the surface of those sheets and the contents of their pockets.

  • Publication number: 20050030660
Abstract: A hard disk drive that contains a self-test for generating data on head spikes. The data is stored on a system track of the drive. The self-test may be firmware embedded into a memory device of the drive. The self-test automatically runs when power is provided to the drive. This allows for a 100% spike detection test for disk drives assembled at a manufacturing facility. The self-test includes writing a test waveform, reading the test waveform and comparing the read waveform with a threshold to determine the existence of spikes. Data on the spikes is then stored on the system track. The data is compared with certain criteria to determine whether the disk drive is defective.
