  • Patent number: 5426311
Abstract: A gate-controlled quantum wire device is disclosed, which may use a channel of electrically resistive material involving tunneling between localized states.

  • Patent number: 5401980
Abstract: A junction is formed by the establishment of first and second adjacent conductivity regions having a transition therebetween from wide (2D) to narrow (1D) with respect to the electron wavelength at the Fermi level. The electrons in the wide region can be propagated at any of a continuum of energies in two dimensions while, in the narrow region, allowable energies become quantized, forming a potential barrier similar to a junction in a tunnel diode. The junction formed in this manner exhibits a Coulomb blockade effect and can be made to operate alternatively as an extremely small capacitance and a conductance to sequentially transfer single electrons, thus forming a Coulomb blockade gate. The Coulomb blockade gate can be used in an oscillator or in digital counting and memory applications.

  • Patent number: 5175041
Abstract: A corner protector, which is formed entirely from paper honeycomb material, fits between the corner of a container and the corner of a relatively rigid object in the container and thereby positions the object within the container and protects it from impacts to which the container may be subjected. The corner protector, when in its assembled configuration, has at least three panels which are arranged perpendicular to each other. Being formed from paper honeycomb material, each panel has inner and outer facer sheets and honeycomb cells interposed between the facer sheets, with the axes of the cells being perpedicular to the facer sheets. The three panels share a common outer facer sheet, with the first and third panels being joined to the second panel along fold lines in that facer sheet. However, the inner facer sheets of the three panels are clearly distinguishable by reason of slit lines that separate them.

  • Patent number: 4790249
Abstract: A load-carrying pallet includes a rectangular deck and blocks arranged under the deck to provide runners along its side edges. More blocks are located between the runners, yet are spaced from them to support the center portion of the deck, the endmost of these center blocks being located along the end edges of the deck. Between the ends of the center blocks and the runners are entry slots which extend beneath the deck for the full length of the deck for accepting the tines of a forklift at either end of the deck. Moreover, the center blocks are arranged to provide cross channels which are perpendicular to the entry slots, and these channels align with side entry blocks in the runners. The side entry blocks permit the tines of a forklift to enter the cross channels and pass beneath the deck from either side edge of the deck, thus providing the pallet with the capability of four-way entry.

  • Patent number: 4513726
Abstract: A fuel saving system for a gasoline engine including a chamber for mixing air and gas and passing the vaporized fuel into an intake manifold to create a better balanced fuel mixture in the engine combustion chambers. The mixing chamber draws air from the engine's vacuum, passing it through an elastic porous element where raw gas is sprayed directly on the element and vapor is drawn off and passed into the intake manifold where it is mixed with air.

  • Patent number: 4089399
Abstract: The invention relates to a device which is for use as or as part of mechanical handling apparatus. It includes an elongate body, and, in the embodiment described, a support for supporting the load and an internal member housing rollers and which is movable above and below the support by an inflatable device in the form of an air bag. The body member is elongate so that it forms a kind of track and it includes a stop in the form of a plate which can be moved between a position in which a load can be moved along the track and a position where it prevents or hinders movement along the track. The track can thus be kept "live" during all loading and unloading operations and the stop keeps loads in their desired positions on the track both during handling and transport.

  • Patent number: 4036345
Abstract: A platform conveyor device for transporting loads, comprising a plurality of spaced apart elongate members alternate ones of which carry rotatable bearing members and are reciprocatable vertically by compressed air hoses so that in an uppermost position loads can be transported over a load bearing surface formed by remaining ones of the members and in a lowermost position loads rest on the load bearing surface.
