Publication number: 20170319099Abstract: A method for measuring an intracranial fluid bioimpedance in a patient's head, to help detect an abnormality, may involve: securing a volumetric integral phase-shift spectroscopy (VIPS) device to the patient's head; measuring the intracranial fluid bioimpedance with the VIPS device by measuring a phase shift between a magnetic field transmitted from a transmitter on one side of a VIPS device and a magnetic field received at a receiver on another side of the VIPS device, at one or more frequencies; and detecting an abnormality in the intracranial bioimpedance fluid, using a processor in the VIPS device.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2017Publication date: November 9, 2017Applicant: CEREBROTECH MEDICAL SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Mitchell Elliott LEVINSON, Eugene Mark SHUSTERMAN, William Leslie SHEA, Richard WYETH, Erik CHELL

Publication number: 20140249400Abstract: A diagnostic system for monitoring changes in a medium is disclosed. The system includes a transmitter configured to generate and transmit a time-varying magnetic field into a medium responsive to a first signal. The system also includes a receiver positioned on an opposite side of the medium from the transmitter and configured to generate a second signal responsive to a received magnetic field at the receiver. The system also includes a processing unit configured to determine a phase shift between the transmitted magnetic field and the received magnetic field for a plurality of frequencies of the transmitted time-varying magnetic field.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 12, 2014Publication date: September 4, 2014Applicant: CEREBROTECH MEDICAL SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Richard WYETH, Mitchell Levinson

Patent number: 8702691Abstract: Treatment apparatus and methods for delivering energy at multiple selectable tissue depths as selected by a clinician. The treatment apparatus includes at least two electrodes that are electrically isolated from each other, which permits each electrode to be independently energized for selecting different treatment depths. The electrodes may be concurrently energized with high frequency energy of the same polarity in a monopolar mode to deliver energy at a relatively deep depth into a patient's tissue, or with high frequency energy of a different polarity in a bipolar mode to provide a shallower penetration depth. Alternatively, the depth of energy delivery may be modified by energizing less than all of the electrodes. The electrodes may be energized with high frequency energy of different phase relationships to deliver energy concurrently in both monopolar and bipolar modes with the phase difference determining a depth of energy delivery.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2006Date of Patent: April 22, 2014Assignee: Thermage, Inc.Inventors: Bryan Weber, Richard Wyeth

Patent number: 8180458Abstract: A method and apparatus for calculating current lost through a patient during a treatment of a patient using an electromagnetic energy delivery system is disclosed. The system generates electromagnetic energy, contacts a skin surface of the patient, transfers the electromagnetic energy to tissue beneath the surface of the skin, detects a value of at least one characteristic of the electromagnetic energy utilizing synchronous undersampling, and calculates the current lost through the patient. The characteristic measured may be a value of current of the electromagnet energy. An adjustable matching network may be utilized to maximize power to the tissue of the patient. Values of the impedance of the matching network may be utilized to determine the electromagnetic energy delivered to the tissue of the patient. A current correction factor is determined from the impedance of the matching network and utilized to calculate the current lost through the patient.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2007Date of Patent: May 15, 2012Assignee: Thermage, Inc.Inventors: Mark L. Kane, Richard Wyeth

Patent number: 7957815Abstract: Electrode assemblies and handpieces for energy-based treatment systems that utilize an impedance assembly to facilitate impedance matching between the system and a patient. The electrode assembly and/or handpiece may include one or more circuit elements configured to introduce at least one supplemental impedance into an electrical circuit coupling the electrode assembly and handpiece. The supplemental impedance, which is related to the impedance of the treatment system and patient, is introduced when the electrode assembly is coupled with the handpiece.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2006Date of Patent: June 7, 2011Assignee: Thermage, Inc.Inventors: Richard Wyeth, Bader-Eddine Bellahsene, Mark L. Kane
