  • Patent number: 6764467
Abstract: A fibrin mixture and dispenser assembly is provided for mixing a first protein component with sterile water to form a first protein solution and for dispensing the first protein solution. The first protein solution forms a biological adhesive when intermixed with a second protein solution. The second protein solution is preferably mixed and dispensed by a similar fibrin mixture and dispenser assembly. The two fibrin mixture and dispenser assemblies can be housed within a single housing. The assembly includes a piercer and a first tubular extension having grooves for providing fluid communication between a reservoir and a mixing chamber or a vial. The reservoir is also in fluid communication with a dispensing needle through a second tubular extension. The reservoir is configured to contain water which is introduced to the mixing chamber. The mixing chamber is configured to contain the first protein component.

  • Patent number: 6527749
Abstract: An applicator is provided for dispensing a first and a second protein solution to form a biological adhesive where the solutions can be deflected by a deflection assembly during dispensing for the adhesive to cover a broad or limited area. The applicator includes a housing having a housing head for enclosing therein a first reservoir containing a first component, and a second reservoir containing a second component. The first and second components are preferably fibrinogen and thrombin which intermix with water to form the first and second protein solutions, respectively. The housing further includes an elongated body portion defining a longitudinal axis for enclosing therein a conduit assembly having a first and a second conduit in communication with the first and second reservoir, respectively. The solutions intermix on an application site to form a fibrin sealant. In an alternate embodiment, the applicator includes two valves.

  • Patent number: 5938668
Abstract: The surgical suturing apparatus is configured to pass a surgical suturing needle having an associated length of suture material attached thereto between opposed pairs of jaws. The surgical suturing apparatus generally includes a housing having an elongated tubular portion extending distally therefrom. A pair of jaws extend distally from the elongated tubular portion and are each individually longitudinally movable with respect to the elongated tubular portion and with respect to each other. Each of the jaw structures includes a jaw and a securing mechanism for tightly holding the surgical needle within the jaw. Parts of the securing mechanism engaging the needle also move longitudinally with respect to the associated jaw and the elongated tubular portion. Various control structures are provided to advance the securing mechanism relative to its associated jaw to secure the surgical needle therein and to move the entire jaw structure longitudinally with respect to the suturing apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5928251
Abstract: An occlusion clamp and an applicator for applying the occlusion clamp to body tissue is provided. The occlusion clamp applicator includes a housing having a proximal end having a first opening, a distal end having a second opening, and a pair of finger gripping members. The housing defines a channel which extends between the first and second openings. A plunger is partially positioned within the channel and extends through the first opening. The distal end of the plunger is operably connected to a jaw mechanism which is also slidably positioned within the channel. The jaw mechanism includes a pair of resilient shank portions, each having a distally located jaw member which extends through the second housing opening. Each shank portion also includes a cam surface which engages the distal end of the channel when the plunger is retracted to move the jaw members from a position in spaced relation with each other to a position relatively close in relation with each other.

  • Patent number: 5792149
Abstract: A clamp applicator is disclosed having a housing, a clamp support member extending distally from the housing, an actuator assembly and a locking device. The actuator assembly is movable with respect to the clamp support member into engagement with a clamp supported at the distal end of the clamp support member to bias the clamp to an open position. A locking device is provided to retain the actuator assembly in a position to maintain the clamp in the open position.
