  • Publication number: 20110315226
Abstract: A string with a plurality of telescoping members has the telescoping members initially sealed preferably with a shape memory foam so that the foam is initially impervious when run into a subterranean location. Then, after extension of the telescoping members, using pressure in the string, the foam gets above its transition temperature and grows axially in a passage of the telescoping members, to the point of becoming porous so that it can serve as a sand control or other debris exclusion device. Plates with openings can be deployed at opposed ends to maintain the assembly in position when subjected to differential pressure as flow goes through the foam. Alternative materials are envisioned.

  • Publication number: 20110278016
Abstract: A valving device includes a tubular with a port and a sleeve slidably sealingly engaged with the tubular between a first position and a second position. The sleeve is configured to occlude the port when in the first position and uncover the port when in the second position. The valving device is configured such that pressure inside the tubular does not urge the sleeve toward the second position while pressure applied radially outwardly of the tubular and the sleeve urge the sleeve toward the second position.

  • Publication number: 20110220362
Abstract: Porous objects, such as porous balls, may be employed within telescoping devices to control proppant flowback through a completed well during production. The telescoping devices may connect a reservoir face to a production liner without perforating. Acid-soluble plugs initially disposed within the telescoping devices may provide enough resistance to enable the telescoping devices to extend out from the production liner under hydraulic pressure. The plugs may then be dissolved in an acidic solution, which may also be used as the hydraulic extension fluid. After the plugs are substantially removed from the telescoping devices, the reservoir may be hydraulically fractured using standard fracturing processes. The porous balls may then be inserted into the telescoping devices to block proppant used in the fracturing process from flowing out of the reservoir with the production fluids.

  • Publication number: 20110017470
Abstract: Devices, systems and related methods control a flow of a fluid between a wellbore tubular and a formation using a flow control device having a flow space formed therein; and a flow control element positioned in flow space. The flow control element may be configured to flex between a first radial position and a second radial position to in response to a pressure differential along the flow space.

  • Patent number: 7841399
Abstract: A flow adapter includes an adapter body which defines a central axial flow bore and one or more lateral flow openings for fluid communication between the central flow bore and a production tubing flowbore surrounding the adapter. The central axial flow bore of the flow adapter provides a flow restriction which creates a pressure drop across the flow adapter. The flow restriction may be in the form of a conically tapered flowbore wherein the downstream end of the flowbore has a diameter that is less than the diameter of the upstream end of the flowbore.
