  • Publication number: 20050249207
Abstract: A repeater that can locate an electronic device in a packet switched network. The repeater stores a physical address that corresponds to a physical address of the electronic device. The electronic device includes a device identification that can be read by the repeater. The repeater transmits the stored physical address and the device identification to a server. The server contains a relational database that correlates the device identification with the physical address. When the electronic device is coupled to an I/O port of the repeater the repeater can read the device identification, transmit the identification and physical address location of the port so that the server relational database correlates the device with the physical location. This allows the server to automatically update the location of the electronic device when it is plugged into the network.

  • Publication number: 20040147232
Abstract: A locator that is mounted to, or integrated into, an outlet box. The outlet box is mounted to a wall that has a physical address. The locator contains a stored locator address that corresponds to the physical address of the box. The locator can receive a wireless communication from a wireless communication location device such as a cell phone. The communication includes a device identification for the wireless device. The locator transmits the stored locator address and the device identification to a server. The server contains a relational database that correlates the device identification with the physical address. The database provides location information that allows a 9-1-1 operator to locate a caller who is placing a 9-1-1 call through the wireless device.

  • Publication number: 20020104009
Abstract: A computer that can be plugged into a backplane which is coupled to a network. The backplane has a backplane identification that is retrieved by the computer and compared with a stored backplane identification. The stored backplane identification is the ID of the last backplane that was coupled to the computer. If the stored ID does not match the ID from the backplane, the computer transmits a command to the network indicating that the computer has been moved to a new physical location. A server can receive the command and automatically reconfigure the network so that a network address and/or telephone number associated with the computer is routed to the backplane. The computer may also transmit a client identification that is used by the server to determine whether the computer is authorized for usage.

  • Publication number: 20020104010
Abstract: A workstation that has one or more computers located in a leg(s) of the station. The workstation may have a plurality of monitors that extend from a table top. The table top is supported by the legs of the station. The monitors can be coupled to corresponding computers located within the table legs. Each computer may be plugged into a backplane mounted to the leg(s). The backplane can be coupled to one or more external networks. One of the legs may also contain a router that is coupled to the network(s) by a single cable. The router transmits information to and between the computers of the workstation. Having a single cable reduces the complexity and cost of installing the workstation in a building structure. Locating the computers within the legs reduces the profile and decreases the corresponding floor space required for the station.

  • Publication number: 20010056226
Abstract: A patient medical monitor that can allow a health care provider to remotely monitor and assist a patient. The patient monitor may be coupled to a provider monitor by a network such as the Internet. The monitor may include a touch screen that displays large icons. Touching an icon may cause the monitor to transmit information to an external source. For example, touching a “HELP” icon may cause the monitor to dial an emergency phone number. The icons are large so that the patient can easily see and read the monitor. The monitor may have a plurality of output ports that can be coupled to medical sensing devices such as an electronic thermometer, pulse oximeter, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, etc. The monitor can convert the input signals from the sensing devices into a format that can be transmitted through the network. The converted sensing input signals can be bundled with other personal data such as name, age, etc.
