Patent number: 6702629Abstract: A watercraft, equipped with a jet drive power source, with improved stability is disclosed. The jet drive power source is configured to produce power along a predetermined direction and form a drive line based upon the predetermined direction. The drive line bisects a plane of the keel at a predetermined angle that is less than about 4 degrees. The drive shaft and the output shaft are not substantially parallel.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2002Date of Patent: March 9, 2004Assignee: Bombardier Motor Corporation of AmericaInventor: Rick Adamczyk

Publication number: 20040031431Abstract: Combined herein are the benefits of a flat deck pontoon boat and the speed and versatility of a jet propelled watercraft. The watercraft is equipped with a propulsion source sufficient to move the watercraft at a substantial speed through the water. The seating layout on the deck provides the amenities of an extremely comfortable watercraft capable of seating multiple passengers while providing sufficient storage space for all necessary items for such a voyage. The watercraft is equipped with a substantially flat deck area with an upper bow deck and a lowered recess area which, when filled with water, provides cooling and amusement for the passengers. The watercraft is equipped with a privacy compartment or toilet, a kitchen area, and a double driver seat, which can be rotated from a relaxing position to a driving position. A rear sundeck can be converted into upright seats. Under the kitchen area an ice chest or some other item can be stowed.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 14, 2003Publication date: February 19, 2004Applicant: Bombardier Motor Corporation of AmericaInventors: Martin Aube, David Kalhok, Alain Rheault, Rick Adamczyk

Patent number: 6675730Abstract: A watercraft is disclosed that includes a hull having port and starboard sides and a propulsion system that generates a stream of pressurized water that exits through a nozzle. A helm operatively connects to the nozzle, whereby turning the helm turns the nozzle. A vane is connected to either or both of the port or starboard sides and is operatively connected to the nozzle. The vane is capable of pivoting inwardly and outwardly in response to steering signals. The vane can also move between an operative position and an inoperative position based on pressure in the propulsion system. The vanes are designed to provide steering assistance when insufficient thrust is generated by the propulsion system to effectively steer the watercraft.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2002Date of Patent: January 13, 2004Assignee: Bombardier Inc.Inventors: Richard Simard, Renald Plante, Yves Berthlaume, Rick Adamczyk

Publication number: 20040003767Abstract: A personal watercraft (PWC) is disclosed that is convertible between a stand-up type watercraft, and at least one of a straddle-type watercraft and a sit-down type watercraft. The PWC includes a hull supporting a power source, and a deck, the deck supporting a steering handle support assembly. A seat assembly is removably supported by the deck, such that the seat assembly can be selectively removed by the user so that the personal watercraft can be operated with and without the seat assembly.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 2, 2003Publication date: January 8, 2004Inventors: Rick Adamczyk, Yves Berthiaume, Tom Bucaccio

Patent number: 6651573Abstract: The benefits of a sporty and maneuverable personal watercraft and those of a larger sport boat, having the ability to accommodate a large number of riders, are combined into a single watercraft. The watercraft is equipped with a rear sundeck large enough for passengers to sun bathe while the watercraft is stationary. Disposed beneath the sundeck are storage compartments, each having a lip-less seal for preventing the ingress of water into the compartments. Additionally, the storage compartments are large enough to store a variety of items and accessories such as food, clothes, and first-aid materials. The watercraft is designed such that a relationship between the position of its center of gravity and the position of its center of buoyancy, prevents the watercraft from tipping over even when three of four adults of average size simultaneously board the watercraft from the same side.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2001Date of Patent: November 25, 2003Assignee: Bombardier Motor Corporation of AmericaInventors: Ron Aselton, Rick Adamczyk, David Kalhok
