  • Patent number: 10494304
Abstract: A calcium silicate insulation product includes a calcium silicate hydrate matrix that is predominantly but not substantially all xonotlite, for example 51-90 weight percent xonotlite and 10-49 weight percent tobermorite. The insulation product also contains wollastonite, and may include fines of lime and silica and reinforcing carbon fibers. A method of producing the insulation product includes providing the components of the insulation as dry solids, blending the dry solids with water to form a slurry, filter pressing the slurry to form a pressed shape, and curing the pressed shape under steam pressure only until the desired proportions of xonotlite and tobermorite are achieved in the calcium silicate hydrate matrix.

    Assignee: Johns Manville
Inventors: Ames Kulprathipanja, Rick Lee Dolin, Noel Camp
  • Patent number: 10364932
Abstract: According to one aspect, a hybrid high temperature thermal insulation includes a mix of inorganic granules. The granular mix includes at least 70 weight percent porous inorganic granules in the form of expanded perlite, and at most 30 weight percent second porous inorganic granules other than expanded perlite. The hybrid insulation also includes a binder. In example formulations, the second porous inorganic particles may be made from crushed aerogel, from fumed silica, from precipitated silica, or from other substances. The hybrid insulation may be formed into preferred shapes, for example a board shape or a semi-cylindrical shape configured to fit over a round tube of a predetermined diameter.
