Patents by Inventor Rick Swedberg

Rick Swedberg has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 11883870
Abstract: A tool pack assembly having sensor plates to measure the temperature of a tool pack forming die and the forces exerted on the forming dies during can production. Each sensor plate may include at least one temperature sensor and at least one strain sensor for reading and transmitting temperature and strain data relating to the dies of a tool pack assembly. The data read and transmitted may be used to determine the concentricity of the punch of a tool pack assembly during operation making can bodies.

  • Patent number: 11045857
Abstract: A fluid-cooled toolpack for cooling can-forming dies without allowing cooling fluid to contaminate or contact the cans or the interior of the can bodymaker during production. The fluid-cooled toolpack generally includes a chill plate that is biased with a spring into contact with a can-forming die. The chill plate may be generally ring shaped and include annular heat pipes to carry heat away from the can-forming die to a set of heatsink fins at the top of the chill plate. Cooling fluid, such as water or air, can be used to remove heat from the heatsink fins. The chill plate can also be used to preheat the can-forming die before the equipment is used if desired, since the heat transfer of the system is non-directional.

  • Publication number: 20190374995
Abstract: An apparatus and method for adjusting the dome setting force of a can bottom former. The apparatus generally includes an outer end plate, an inner end plate movably mounted near the outer end plate. The apparatus also includes a dome-setting spring positioned between the inner end plate and a movable housing, and an adjustment screw threaded into the outer end plate such that the turning the adjustment screw exerts a displacing force on the inner end plate toward the movable housing, which in turn increases the force exerted by the dome-setting spring during can forming.

  • Patent number: 10441992
Abstract: An actuator assembly for dynamically or manually positioning a dome die and clamp ring of a can bottom former assembly. The actuator assembly is also usable for other purposes where accurate and repeatable adjustments in position are needed. The actuator assembly may include an anchor member and at least one torsion rod having a torque end and an actuation end, with 2 bends at or near the actuation end, such that a torque applied to the torque end creates a substantially linear actuation force at or near the actuation end of the torsion rod.
