  • Patent number: 5580265
Abstract: Disclosed are sealant compositions having excellent slump and spew resistant, even at relatively high operating temperatures for electrical connectors. The sealants, which are flowable at such elevated temperatures, comprise two essential components: elastomeric thermoplastic polymer, preferably an organic polymer composite comprising diblock and triblock copolymers, and extender for the polymer. The extender may comprise a primary and a secondary extender, such as polybutene oil and mineral oil, respectively.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 29, 1994
Date of Patent: December 3, 1996
    Assignee: The Whitaker Corporation
Inventors: Francis F. Koblitz, Thomas J. Lynch, Ricky C. Mellinger

  • Patent number: 5354210
Abstract: Disclosed are moisture and temperature resistant electrical connectors for sealingly connecting transmission means and sealant compositions adapted for use in such connectors, the sealants comprising (i) elastomeric thermoplastic polymer; (ii) extender for said elastomeric thermoplastic polymer; and (iii) cross-linked polymer. The cross-linked polymer is preferably cross-linked in the presence of said elastomeric thermoplastic polymer and is preferably a silicon-based cross-linked polymer.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5110387
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for laminating at least two polymer films. An intermediate assembly 40 is made comprising an adhesive film 20 and a dielectric polymer film 12. The method comprises the steps of: selecting an adhesive film 20 with a melting point T.sub.1, the adhesive film having inner and outer major surfaces 22, 24; selecting a polymer film 12, with a melting point T.sub.2, where T.sub.2 >T.sub.1, the polymer film having inner and outer major surfaces 14, 16; subjecting the inner surface 14 of the polymer film 12 to a high voltage electric discharge to form a treated inner surface; heating the polymer film 12 having the treated inner surface to a temperature greater than T.sub.1 ; aligning the inner adhesive surface 22 and the inner treated polymer surface 14 in opposed facing relationship; applying pressure to urge the films 12, 20 relatively together; and heating the pressed together films to a temperature greater than T.sub.
