Patent number: 8016868Abstract: A heat patch and method for providing therapy to a body. The heat patch includes a reflective layer and a heat source that is attached to the reflective layer. The reflective layer reflects infrared energy emitted by the body back into the body while the heat source applies heat to the body. The combination of supplying heat and reflecting infrared energy provides effective therapy to people with relatively deep tissue injuries. In another aspect, the heat patch includes an enclosure made from a gas-permeable layer and a reflective layer attached to the gas-permeable layer. A heating composition is sealed inside the enclosure to generate heat when a gas (e.g., air) is received through the gas-permeable layer. The heat generated by the heating composition is easily controlled such that heat patch can be maintained at a temperature well above ambient temperature.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2006Date of Patent: September 13, 2011Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventor: Ricky W. Patent number: 7082423Abstract: A methodology for prioritizing between a number of anticipated problems employs a mathematical formula that considers probability and seriousness for each of a plurality of identified problems. Each of a plurality of problems is assigned a value for its seriousness, a value for its coefficient of seriousness, and a value for the probability of its occurrence. Once each of the identified problems is assigned these numerical values, then for each problem, the values of probability (P), coefficient of seriousness (?) and seriousness (S) are entered into the following formula: [P×S]+[?×S]=RP. The relative priority (RP) value that is calculated by this formula for each rated problem is then ranked to enable the decision-maker to decide which problems deserve to receive the most attention in the shortest period of time.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2002Date of Patent: July 25, 2006Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventor: Ricky W. Patent number: 7041124Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for providing therapy to a portion of a body. The system and method use an elastic band to hold a pack against an injured area on a body. The system and method are particularly effective in supporting packs that require access to the ambient environment in order to maintain a chemical reaction within the pack. The system comprises an elastic band that includes an opening and a pack that includes a gas-permeable portion. The pack is secured to the elastic band such that the gas-permeable portion of the pack is exposed through the opening in the elastic band. The elastic band provides support to the pack without covering the gas-permeable portions of the pack. Therefore, the elastic band does not inhibit the chemical reaction within the pack when the elastic band is applied to the portion of the body.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2003Date of Patent: May 9, 2006Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventor: Ricky W. Patent number: 6740021Abstract: Folding apparatus and systems are described for providing multi-folded products utilizing a folding board having at least one pressurized nip positioned proximate the folding operation. A folded product is directed through a first pressurized nip, comprising a roller and a first surface of a second folding board, positioned upstream of the folding operation and a second pressurized nip, comprising a roller and a second surface of the folding board, positioned downstream of the folding operation. Positioning pressurized nips proximate the folding operation improves the integrity of the folds created within the product and also creates distinct, uniformly oriented fold lines.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2001Date of Patent: May 25, 2004Assignee: Kimberly Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: John H. Evans, Adam Glass, Leslie T. Long, Ronald R. Padak, Ricky W. Purcell

Patent number: 6591727Abstract: A dispenser for dispensing and cutting a measured amount from a web of roll material includes a housing and a roll carrier disposed within the housing to rotationally carry a first web of roll material. A rotatable drum is disposed in the housing proximate to the roll carrier. The roll carrier is biased towards the drum so that a roll carried by the roll carrier is urged towards the drum and the web material is frictionally engaged against the drum to rotate the drum upon a consumer pulling on the free end of the web material. A cutting device extends longitudinally along and is disposed at least partially within the drum. The cutting device extends automatically from a retracted position to a cutting position upon the drum being rotated a constant predetermined amount by a consumer pulling on the free end of the web material. A stub roll carrier is disposed in the housing to rotationally carry a depleted second roll of material that is simultaneously dispensed with the first web of roll material.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2000Date of Patent: July 15, 2003Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Ricky W. Patent number: 6145779Abstract: A dual roll dispenser includes a housing having first and second roll retaining devices for holding at least two rolls within the housing. A feed mechanism is disposed in the housing to dispense material from the first roll and second roll in a sequential feeding operation. A guide member is disposed within the housing and is movable between a staging position spaced from the feed mechanism and an operating position wherein the guide member contacts and moves material from the second roll to a dispensing nip of the feed mechanism for subsequent dispensing of material from the second roll upon the first roll being depleted to a predetermined degree. A movable trigger device is disposed against the outer circumferential surface of the first roll and moves in a path as the first roll is reduced in diameter upon depletion thereof. When the first roll is depleted to a certain diameter, the trigger device passes beyond and out of contact with the first roll into a trigger position.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1999Date of Patent: November 14, 2000Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Darrell R.
