    Abstract: A primer composition composed of 1 to 100 parts by weight of a chlorinated carboxyl group-containing .alpha.-olefin polymer and 100 parts by weight of an organic solvent therefor, the improvement wherein(i) said chlorinated carboxyl group-containing .alpha.-olefin polymer is a post-chlorination product [C] of a graft-modified propylene polymer [B] having a chlorine content of 10 to 35% by weight, said graft-modified propylene polymer [B] having an acid value of 6 to 187 mg-KOH/g-polymer and obtained by grafting an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride to a propylene polymer [A] having an intrinsic viscosity [.eta.], determined at 135.degree. C. in decalin, of 0.6 to 10 dl/g and comprising 70 to 100 mole % of propylene and 0 to 30 mole % of an .alpha.-olefin other than propylene, and(ii) said solvent is an organic solvent boiling at about 60.degree. to about 200.degree. C.

    Abstract: A chlorinated polyolefin having a chlorine content of 15 to 30% by weight which is produced by chlorinating a polyolefin type polymer comprising propylene units and units of an .alpha.-olefin having 4 to 6 carbon atoms in a particular ratio and having a crystallinity of 10 to 50% and an intrinsic viscosity of 0.8 to 6.0 dl/g. This chlorinated polyolefin can be used as an adhesive for lamination of a chlorine-containing polymer (e.g. a polyvinylidene chloride) and an aromatic polymer (e.g. a polystyrene) and exhibits excellent adhesion characteristics at high temperature atmospheres.

    Abstract: A modified polyolefin composition comprising(A) 50 to 99 parts by weight of a modified polyolefin having an intrinsic viscosity [.eta.] of 0.5 to 10 dl/g and a degree of crystallization of at least 20% selected from the group consisting of polyolefins modified with styrene-type hydrocarbons, polyolefins modified with unsaturated epoxy compounds, polyolefins modified with unsaturated silane compounds, halogenated polyolefins and hydroxyl group-containing polyolefins, and(B) 1 to 50 parts by weight of a thermoplastic polymer selected from the group consisting of(B-1) thermoplastic polymers having a flexural modulus of less than 1000 kg/cm.sup.2, a glass transition temperature (Tg) of not higher than 0.degree. C. and a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of at least 400,000, and(B-2) polar non-olefinic thermoplastic polymers or ethylenic polymers having a flexural modulus of at least 1000 kg/cm.sup.2 and an adhesion strength, with respect to the modified polyolefin (A), of not more than 200 g/cm.

    Abstract: A glass-reinforced polymer composition of the invention contains 80 to 99.99 parts by weight, of a 4-methyl-1-pentene polymer, 0.01 to 20 parts by weight of a graft-modified polymer of 4-methyl-1-pentene having graft units of an unsaturated carboxylic acid or an acid anhydride thereof in an amount of 0.5 to 15% by weight and having a limiting viscosity of 0.3 to 10 dl/g, and 1 to 300 parts by weight of glass fibers based on 100 parts by weight of the sum of the 4-methyl-1-pentene polymer and the graft-modified polymer. The composition has overall standards of mechanical strength, heat resistance and water resistance.

    Abstract: A graft-modified copolymer having a melt flow rate of 0.01 to 100 g/10 min at a temperature of 230.degree. C. under a load of 2160 g. The graft-modified copolymer is prepared by grafting (a) 100 parts by weight of low crystalline or amorphous ethylene-alpha-olefin copolymer having an ethylene content of 40 to 93 mole%, a melt flow rate of 0.1 to 50 g/10 min at a temperature of 230.degree. C. under a load of 2160 g, and a density of 0.90 g/cm.sup.3 or less with (b) 0.3 to 50 parts by weight of a styrene-type hydrocarbon. This graft-modified copolymer is suitable for use as a compounding agent for improving the impact resistance of styrene-type polymers without decreasing the surface hardness, weathering resistance, and molding properties thereof.

    Abstract: In a laminated multilayer structure composed of (A) a layer of a graft-modified ethylene resin grafted with an unsaturated carboxylic acid or a functional derivative thereof and (B) an oxygen- or nitrogen-containing polar resin layer or a metal layer in contact with the layer (A); the improvement wherein (1) the layer (A) consists of (i) 1 to 100% by weight of said graft-modified ethylene resin derived from an ethylene polymer which contains 0 to 15 mole % of at least one alpha-olefin having 3 to 30 carbon atoms as a comonomer and has an MI.sub.2 /[.eta.].sup.-8.77 ratio in absolute value of not less than 15 and a density of 0.88 to 0.98 g/cm.sup.3, and (ii) 99 to 0% by weight of an unmodified ethylene polymer containing 0 to 50 mole % of at least one alpha-olefin having 3 to 30 carbon atoms as a comonomer and having an MI.sub.2 /[.eta.].sup.-8.77 ratio in absolute value of not less than 15 and a density of 0.86 to 0.96 g/cm.sup.

    Abstract: A lubricating oil composition comprising a major proportion of a lubricating oil, and an oil-soluble graft copolymer, said graft copolymer being prepared by grafting a small amount of a grafting monomer selected from saturated esters of unsaturated monocarboxylic acids, unsaturated esters of saturated carboxylic acids and unsaturated epoxy compounds to a trunk copolymer which is substantially free from an oxygen-containing functional group and a carbon-carbon double bond determined from its iodine value and has a number average molecular weight of about 5,000 to about 100,000, said trunk copolymer being selected from copolymers of alpha-olefins having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, copolymers of styrene and alpha-olefins having 2 to 20 carbon atoms and hydrogenated products of copolymers of styrene and diolefins. A process for preparation of said composition is also provided.

    Abstract: A surface treating agent for fabricated articles of polyolefins which is composed of an organic solvent solution of a modified polymer resulting from the graft copolymerization of a propylene-ethylene copolymer with maleic acid or maleic anhydride. The propylene-ethylene copolymer has a propylene content of 50 to 75 mole % and a crystallinity determined by an X-ray diffraction method of 2 to 20%. The amount of maleic acid or maleic anhydride grafted is 0.5 to 15% by weight. The modified polymer has an intrinsic viscosity of at least 0.3, and is dissolved in the organic solvent in a concentration of 10 to 100 kg/m.sup.3 of solvent. The treating agent is suitable as an undercoat of the polyolefin articles and permits coating of a paint with markedly improved adhesion.

    Abstract: A process for preparing thermoplastic olefin elastomers which comprises mixing and extruding in a screw extruder (A) an olefin rubber having a number average molecular weight of about 10,000 to 100,000 and composed of a copolymer of ethylene with an .alpha.-olefin containing at least 3 carbon atoms and (B) about 1 to 15 parts by weight, per 100 parts by weight of the olefin rubber (A), of a specified dicarboxylic acid monomer at about 200 to 320.degree. C in the presence of (C) 0.02 to 3 milliequivalents, per 100 grams of the olefin rubber (A), of an alkyl peroxide, and in the absence of molecular oxygen. The thermoplastic olefin elastomers have superior mechanical properties, thermal stability, processability and adhesiveness, and find a wide range of applications, for example, as extrusion or injection molding materials, adhesives, coating agents, and modifiers for plastics and rubbers.
