One method for monitoring a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) for adaptive retransmission grants in a radio communication system includes: monitoring, by a user equipment (UE), the PDCCH for adaptive retransmission grants; receiving, by the UE, a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) acknowledge (ACK) message, and ceasing, by the UE, to monitor the PDCCH for adaptive retransmission grants after receipt of the HARQ ACK message.

    Abstract: According to the teachings presented herein, a base station implements active queue management (AQM) for uplink transmissions from user equipment (UE), such as a mobile terminal. The base station, e.g., an eNodeB in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, uses buffer status reports, for example, to estimate packet delays for packets in the UE's uplink transmit buffer. In one embodiment, a (base station) method of AQM for the uplink includes estimating at least one of a transmit buffer size and a transmit buffer queuing delay for a UE, and selectively dropping or congestion-marking packets received at the base station from the UE. The selective dropping or marking is based on the estimated transmit buffer size and/or the estimated transmit buffer queuing delay.

Thus, the buffer state of the user equipment buffer is predicted by using the determined moment of time when the frame of data was generated in the user equipment buffer. Radio resources are granted to the user equipment, based on the predicted buffer state of the user equipment buffer.     Abstract: A system, method and node of downlinking transmissions to an unsynchronized UE in a telecommunications network. The method begins by a node in the network requesting synchronization of the UE with the network. A first transmission of data is sent from the node to the UE prior to synchronization of the UE. The UE then synchronizes with the network by the UE performing a Random Access procedure with the node, thereby triggering a time alignment command from the node to the UE to synchronize the UE with the network. A second transmission of data is then sent from the node to the UE after the UE is synchronized. A response feedback message is sent to the node from the UE. The message is a cumulative feedback message of the first transmission of data and the second transmission of data. Thus, data may be transmitted prior to synchronization of the UE.

    Abstract: In one or more embodiments, the present invention provides a method and apparatus for “early” triggering of a BSR in a relay node. Doing so is advantageous, for example, in reducing the overall time between a UE's transmission of data to a relay node on an access link and the corresponding transmission of that data from the relay node to a donor base station on a backhaul link. Of course, that example is non-limiting. More broadly, in at least one embodiment, the present invention provides for triggering a BSR in the relay node right after learning that there is at least one UE connected to the relay node that wants to transmit UL data. Further, one or more embodiments provide a simple method and apparatus for using a relay node BSR to inform a donor base station about the scheduled status of UEs supported by the relay node.
