  • Patent number: 6763869
Abstract: In a pultrusion device for producing continuous length sections prepared from thermoplastic resins reinforced with long fibers, the vertical angle (&agr;) of an upstream conical surface of a conical portion, which constitutes a shaping nozzle perforated through the downstream end wall of the device ranges from 15 to 35 degrees and the shaping nozzle has a land portion having a length of 1 to 5 mm in the downstream area subsequent to the upstream conical surface. According to this pultrusion device for producing continuous length sections prepared from thermoplastic resins reinforced with long fibers, the long fibers never undergo any breakage nor fluffing during the opening treatment and this accordingly leads to the substantial reduction of pill-formation.

  • Patent number: 6251206
Abstract: An opening and resin-impregnation apparatus is used for impregnating a reinforcing fiber bundle (2) with a molten resin. The fiber bundle (2) is subjected to opening by bringing it into contact with opening pins (4). An auxiliary pin (5) is positioned within a specific region relative to the opening pin. The apparatus and a method which makes use of the apparatus permit the production of a continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin composite material having excellent impregnation characteristics and flexural strength while maintaining high stable productivity.

  • Patent number: 6060126
Abstract: A unidirectionally reinforced resin structure is manufactured by an apparatus which comprises a melt resin bath in which a melt resin is stored and into which a long fiber bundle passes, and a plurality of opening pins disposed in the melt resin bath. The long fiber bundle is impregnated with the melt resin and opened by the opening pins during the passing in the melt resin bath. The opening pins are arranged in a perpendicular direction with respect to the melt resin bath and the opening pins are composed of at least two groups in the perpendicular direction so as to open at least two long fiber bundles.

  • Patent number: 5948473
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing a resin-impregnated structure reinforced by continuous fibers in which a practically endless continuous fiber bundle is dipped in a bath of molten resin and simultaneously passes through a space between a pair of opening pins. The opening pins can be positioned on sides of the bundle so that the continuous fibers are sandwiched by the pins without coming in contact with them. By doing so, the fibers of the bundle can be opened and can be impregnated with the resin. In addition, the foregoing continuous fiber-reinforced resin structure may be cut into pieces having a desired length to provide columnar products.

  • Patent number: 5866648
Abstract: A long fiber-reinforced polymer alloy resin composition (C) is provided which is obtained by blending a master batch (A) containing a long fiber reinforcement (a2) having a length of 3 to 30 mm in a resin matrix of a polyamide resin (a1), with a substantially polymer-alloyed resin diluent (B) obtained by melt kneading 45 to 20% by weight of a crystalline polyolefin resin (b1) and 55 to 80% by weight of a polyamide resin (b2), the crystalline polyolefin resin (b1) containing a modified olefin crystalline polymer (b11) having been substantially modified with unsaturated carboxylic acids. In this resin composition (C), the amount of the long fiber reinforcement (a2) is in the range of 10 to 60% by weight, and the amount of the crystalline polyolefin resin (b1) in resin components ((a1)+(b1)+(2)) other than the long finer reinforcement (a2) is in the range of 20 to 45% by weight. This resin composition (C) is excellent in tensile strength and particularly excellent in repeated impact resistance properties.

  • Patent number: 5792527
Abstract: A product is provided in a continuous length formed from a fiber-reinforced resin and having a shape ratio ?whole length of the contour of the section (Lmm)/real area of the section (Smm.sup.2)! of 0.5 to 2.5/mm and a thickness of 1 to 4 mm. This product in a continuous length is prominently excellent in tensile strength, though the amount of the fiber reinforcement contained in the product is almost the same as in conventional fiber-reinforced products. Hence, the product in a continuous length is favorably used as a spacer for concrete form.

  • Patent number: 5238989
Abstract: The present invention provides a polypropylene resin composition which permits the formation of materials having high strength and stiffness, less warpage deformation and such excellent mechanical durability that these materials can be used when load is applied continuously for a long term or when load is applied repeatedly. The polypropylene resin composition contains the three components of (a) 40 to 75% by weight of a modified polypropylene obtained by heating and melting a mixture prepared by adding at least (1) 0.01 to 2% by weight of an unsaturated acid, (2) 0.1 to 3% by weight of an unsaturated silane and (3) an organic peroxide to a crystalline polypropylene, (b) 10 to 35% by weight of glass fibers, and (c) 15 to 45% by weight of a mica powder, and the components (b) and (c) are blended with the component (a) so that the total amount of the components (b) and (c) may be in the range of from 25 to 60% by weight based on the composition.
