  • Patent number: 7420948
Abstract: The invention relates to a data transfer method in a digital cellular radio network, the method comprising channel coding the information to be transferred for transmission. In order to implement a data rate of 14.4 kbit/s in GSM type of cellular radio systems by employing one time slot only for data transmission, the channel coding according to the method of the invention comprises grouping bits to be transmitted in blocks having the minimum size of 288 bits, carrying out convolutional coding for the blocks with a code rate of ½ by using GSM convolutional coding polynomes, and puncturing the bits obtained by deleting bits from each block so that blocks containing no more than 456 bits will be obtained.

  • Patent number: 6535503
Abstract: A radio system and a channel allocation method in a radio system are provided. The radio system and method have at least one base station communicating with terminals within a coverage area thereof. Air interface resources are allocated to different terminals with a combined time and code multiple access method such that the signal of one or more terminals is transmitted in each time slot. Terminal signals are grouped into different time slots based on connection characteristics of each terminal.

  • Patent number: 6463294
Abstract: In mobile communications systems of the CDMA type in particular detection of individual signals from the received common signal with known methods requires much processing capacity of the mobile communications system. The present invention concerns a method of reducing radio inter-ference in a mobile communications system including at least one base station (BS) and several mobile stations (MS). The mobile communications system uses several traffic channels for communications between the base station (BS) and the mobile stations (MS).

  • Patent number: 6396827
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for a UWC-136 HS communication system is provided. A synchronization signal generated by the network infrastructure, constructed generally corresponding to the existing IS-136/136+ standard is received by a mobile station operable, generally, pursuant to the timing scheme defined in a GSM system. A relative timing offset between the timing schemes of the respective communication system schemes is determined and thereafter utilized for purposes of synchronization.

  • Patent number: 6195562
Abstract: The aim of the invention is to restrict the maximum transmitted power used by a mobile communication device. In most countries there are regulations in force which impose certain maximum limits on the power of electromagnetic radiation directed towards humans. These limits vary from country to country and will most probably be tightened in the future. In the system according to the invention, the upper limit of transmitted power is varied according to the mode of usage of the mobile communication device. A mobile communication device according to such a system meets the requirements made on a device operating close to the user's head, but the same mobile communication means may still be used in applications demanding greater transmitted power in a situation where the power limits placed on the radio set are less strict.
