Abstract: A method of storing and/or transporting oxo alcohol, comprises: combining an oxo alcohol having an initial aldehyde content X and an initial peroxide content Y with 5 ppm to 100 ppm of a phenolic antioxidant, preferably a phenolic antioxidant without ester linkage groups; and storing and/or transporting the oxo alcohol. The oxo alcohol can be used to produce a plasticizer, e.g., without adversely affecting color.

Abstract: A method of purifying alcohol produced in a process that includes the Oxo process is disclosed. Aldehyde from the Oxo process that remains with the alcohol is removed by a reaction with an alkali sulphite to produce an insoluble adduct and alcohol having a reduced amount of aldehyde mixed with it. The adduct is removed from the alcohol by filtration.

Abstract: Systems and methods for producing a non-phthalate based plasticizer. The systems and methods involve dissolving a carboxylic acid and/or anhydride thereof in an alcohol at a temperature below the melting point of the carboxylic anhydride. An advantage of the method is reduced energy consumption compared to conventional methods that require melting the carboxylic anhydride. Furthermore, the method enables the production of non-phthalate based plasticizer in an existing phthalate based plasticizer production facility with minimal modification, thereby reducing capital expenditure.

Abstract: A method of preparing functionalized elastomers, including epoxy ring-opening an epoxidized elastomer with a C1-C32 hydrocarbyl-substituted thiol to provide a functionalized elastomer comprising an epoxy functional group, a hydroxy functional group, and a C1-C32 hydrocarbyl-substituted thio functional group. The hydroxy functional group and the C1-C32 hydrocarbyl-substituted thio functional group are vicinal functional groups.
