    Abstract: A passive-matrix display device has rows (2) of pixels (Pij). A row driver (8) selects sub-groups of the rows (2) to obtain multiple row addressing. Each sub-group has a particular number (p) of the rows (2). In each frame period (Tf) the sub-groups are selected a number of times equal to the particular number (p) at different select instants (ti). The multiple row addressing is based on a scheme defined by a function matrix (FM) which has orthogonal functions (Fi(t)). The columns of the function matrix (FM) represent the orthogonal functions (Fi(t)) at the select instants (ti). The function matrix (FM) is changed such that each one of the columns has at least two non-zero elements (?1,1) and at least one zero element (0).

    Abstract: A table-based driving circuit for displays that switches between a normal operational mode and a read table block mode. The driving circuit comprises an address sequencer and a memory. The memory comprises the full table of individual sequences, such as interlacing or color-sequential sequence. In the read table mode, the next upcoming addresses are read, i.e. are downloaded, from the memory into an address table register in the address sequencer. In the normal operational mode, the address sequencer generates the addresses for the video data to be stored in the memory or to be displayed.

    Abstract: The invention concerns a device and method for converting and supplying a display driving unit with luminance values as well as a portable electronic device and a display unit including the converting device. The device includes an input (33, 35, 37), which receives a first value representing a luminance level with a first word length. It also includes a conversion unit (34, 36 38), that converts the first value into second and third values. These values together represent the luminance level represented by the first value and have a second word length. The second word length is shorter than the first word length. The device also includes a subfield control unit (32), which supplies the second and third values to the display driving unit during a frame period of the display. The time taken up by each converted value is a subfield of the frame. The subfield of the third value is longer than the subfield of the second value.
