  • Publication number: 20090167145
Abstract: There is disclosed an electroluminescent device (200; 300; 400; 500) in which a phosphor (6) is deposited in gaps (3) between electrodes (2a, 2b). The deposition of phosphor on top of the electrodes is minimised as phosphor on top of the centre of an electrode will not experience a significant electrical field and thus will not usefully emit light. Some embodiments improve the efficiency with which phosphor is utilised during manufacture. In some embodiments (400; 500) the electrodes and phosphor may be on opposite sides of a substrate (1). In some embodiments (100), the phosphor has a sufficiently high dielectric strength that a dielectric layer between the phosphor and the electrodes is not required.
