    Abstract: In a pad transfer printing process a doctor blade is in the form of a downwardly and rearwardly curving strip of spring steel whose lower free edge rides on the working surface of the cliche, thus wiping off excess ink prior to transferring ink from the cliche to the pad. The free edge is polished, and a downward force is applied whereby the strip is resiliently deformed by contact between the free edge and the working surface.
