  • Patent number: 10686492
Abstract: Multiple ports of a vectored digital subscriber line (DSL) system can be automatically reconfigured to respond to a fault or defect associated with another one of the ports of the system. Information regarding retrain events for the ports of the system can be examined to identify the “bad” port with the associated fault or defect and the corresponding group of ports affected by the bad port. The affected group of ports can be identified as a group of ports that all were retrained within a predetermined time period and for common retrain reasons (e.g., 1 or 2 different retrain reasons). Once the affected group of ports is identified, the affected group of ports and the bad port can receive corresponding repair profiles to reconfigure the ports to respond to the fault or defect.

  • Patent number: 9357057
Abstract: In a system for identifying subscriber lines, an end of a subscriber line is coupled to and terminated by a transceiver of interest. The other end of the subscriber line is coupled to a speaker. The transceiver is then selectively activated and deactivated causing it to transmit its normal frequency spectrum in a predefined pattern. The frequency spectrum includes frequencies audible to humans. Thus, the speaker produces sound capable of being heard by a human, and the sound exhibits periods of noise followed by periods of silence. Indeed, the periods of noise and silence are in a pattern according to the activation/deactivation pattern of the transceiver. Thus, a user can identify the subscriber line that is coupled to the transceiver by identifying which of the lines is coupled to the speaker when the speaker emits noise and silence according to the predefined pattern.

  • Patent number: 9191496
Abstract: Systems and methods for locating faults in a digital subscriber line (DSL) system in accordance with the disclosure include a handshake messaging procedure that is used to rapidly obtain interconnectivity information of various subscriber loops that are present in a DSL repeater chain. The interconnectivity information is used to provide an identification of one or more faulty loops when such faulty loops are present in the DSL repeater chain. The identification may be provided in the form of a topological representation that can be used to execute targeted line testing procedures on the faulty loops without wasting time on testing loops that are not faulty.

  • Patent number: 9118500
Abstract: A communications system includes at least one telecommunications access module coupled to a plurality of communications subscriber line pairs and comprising at least one bonding engine. A module is configured to receive a provisioning request and determine the total number of communications subscriber line pairs available to form a bonding group and select at least one bonding engine for the bonding group. A data processor is configured to determine a maximum packet fragment size for the data packets based on the total number of available subscriber line pairs forming the bonding group. A maximum packet fragment size is adapted to the number of communications line pairs within the bending group and the bonding engine fragments the data packets into the packet fragments. A transmitter receives the packet fragments and transmits the packet fragments over the communications subscriber line pairs forming the bonding group.

  • Patent number: 8199905
Abstract: The present disclosure generally pertains to systems and methods for identifying subscriber lines coupled to transceivers of interest. In one exemplary embodiment, an end of a subscriber line is coupled to and terminated by a transceiver of interest. The other end of the subscriber line is coupled to a speaker. The transceiver is then selectively activated and deactivated causing it to transmit its normal frequency spectrum in a predefined pattern. The frequency spectrum includes frequencies audible to humans. • Patent number: 7162676
Abstract: A data communication system comprises a forward error correction (FEC) module, a first transceiver, a second transceiver, and logic. The FEC module is configured to receive data and to define FEC code words based on the received data. The first transceiver is coupled to a first communication line, and the second transceiver is coupled to a second communication line. The logic is configured to selectively enable the FEC module to implement a desired FEC scheme based on an estimated error rate associated with the first communication line and an estimated error rate associated with the second communication line.

  • Patent number: 7119597
Abstract: A test circuit employs use of first and second switches to operably charge a capacitor to over 500 volts and, thereafter, discharge energy stored in the capacitor to test an over-voltage protection circuit associated with a pin of a semiconductor device. When switched by a controller, the first switch couples a high voltage source to charge a capacitor. After completing this charge phase, the controller opens the first switch, decoupling the high voltage source from the capacitor. The controller then activates the second switch to couple the capacitor to the pin of the semiconductor device. During this discharge phase, energy in the capacitor discharges through the protection circuit of the semiconductor device. Use of a high-voltage dry reed vacuum relay as the first switch provides better isolation of the high voltage source from the capacitor, avoiding a presence of an unwanted residual voltage component in a simulated ESD test pulse.

  • Patent number: 7103820
Abstract: A forward error correction system comprises a forward error correction (FEC) module and a transmission module. The FEC module is configured to define a plurality of FEC code words, and the transmission module is configured to transmit the FEC code words to a remote receiving unit via a plurality of communication connections. The transmission module is further configured to ensure that characters of each of the FEC code words are transmitted across different ones of the communication connections.

  • Patent number: 5870428
Abstract: An adaptive digital data unit (600) initiates and successfully completes a remote loop back test. The adaptive digital data unit (600) has a controller (610), a local transmitter (620), a local receiver (640) a timer (622) and a detector (634). When a remote adaptive digital data unit (600) transmits a first data sequence and a second data sequence, the local adaptive digital data unit (600) receives the second data sequence from the remote digital data unit and determines if the second data sequence matches one of two predetermined data sequences. If so, a test successful flag is generated.

  • Patent number: 5772254
Abstract: A fluid-tight modular joint is disclosed having various replaceable parts for refurbishing the joint after certain parts wear out. Specifically, the modular joint has a pair of sealing assemblies interconnected by a tubular sealing member which permits angular misalignment, axial movement and rotational movement between conduits. Each of the sealing assemblies includes a tubular housing with a replaceable sealing sleeve which is positively retained therein by a split retaining ring. Typically, the housings are welded to conduits, and thus, can only be removed by cutting them from their respective conduits. However, the housings are provided with access openings for inserting a camming tool therein to remove the sealing sleeves without cutting the housings away from their respective conduits. Therefore, in refurbishing the modular joint, the housings are reusable, while the sealing sleeves and tubular sealing members are replaceable.

  • Patent number: 5716052
Abstract: A pressure-energized sealing ring having a bight portion, a first leg portion and a second leg portion for providing a fluid-tight seal between a pair of components. The first and second leg portions include a curved section having first and second sealing surfaces. The sealing surfaces are spaced from the free ends of the leg portion. The free ends of the leg portions are positioned between the bight portion and the sealing surfaces so that the ends of the seal are located in the area of low pressure. Accordingly, when sealing ring is a multi-ply seal, the free ends of the seal are positioned in the low pressure area so that the high pressure does not separate the seal. The curved sections of the leg portions and the curve of the bight portion securely couple the plies together without welding. Preferably, the plies are connected together and in intimate contact at their interfaces therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4854600
Abstract: A pressure balance sealing ring having a substantially S-shaped, resilient cross section including two oppositely facing convolutions, a central leg coupling the convolutions and a pair of outer legs, each extending from one of the convolutions. The ring is advantageously formed of metal and seals against opposed axially facing but offset surfaces in an annulus between two concentric pipes or opposed axially facing surfaces at the interface formed by two aligned pipes. Each outer leg has a substantially circular sealing line, these sealing lines being radially offset from one another, adjacent the free distal edge of each leg, and spaced from the convolutions. In a modified embodiment, the sealing ring has more than two convolutions and additional legs to connect them. In another series of modified embodiments, the sealing ring has one or two restraining rings rigidly coupled to one or both of the outer legs to ensure the desired direction of torsional deflection under the action of the differential pressure.
