  • Patent number: 9491389
Abstract: A digital focal plane array includes an all-digital readout integrated circuit in combination with a detector array. The readout circuit includes unit cell electronics, orthogonal transfer structures, and data handling structures. The unit cell electronics include an analog to digital converter. Orthogonal transfer structures enable the orthogonal transfer of data among the unit cells. Data handling structures may be configured to operate the digital focal plane array as a data encryptor/decipherer. Data encrypted and deciphered by the digital focal plane array need not be image data.

  • Publication number: 20150000619
Abstract: A liquid-cooled internal combustion engine, including at least one cylinder block which has a cooling jacket and multiple cylinders. The cooling jacket has a base facing toward a crank chamber and a top facing toward a cylinder head sealing plane. The base has an undulating profile in which a first distance, as measured in the direction of the cylinder axis, between the base of the cooling jacket and the top in the region of at least one first engine transverse plane which encompasses the cylinder axis is greater than a second distance in the region of at least one second engine transverse plane between two adjacent cylinders. In order to reduce cylinder deformation, the cooling jacket has three different heights, in which a third distance between the base of the cooling jacket and the top is smaller in at least one face-end region of the cooling jacket.

  • Patent number: 8871826
Abstract: A hybrid polymer composition can include a polymeric material that has dispersed within it a plurality of photocatalytic particles and a plurality of conductive particles at least some of which are in contact with one or more of the plurality of photocatalytic particles such that the conductive particles provide electron donating and electron accepting properties to the photocatalytic particles to enhance the creation of free radicals upon exposure of the hybrid polymer composition to one or more degradation enhancing factors. Examples of degradation enhancing factors can include, but are not limited to, one or more of visible light, ultraviolet light, moisture, and ozone. The photocatalytic particles can include a metal oxide, such as for example titanium dioxide and/or another non-toxic metal oxide. Related methods, articles, and the like are described.

  • Patent number: 8802212
Abstract: A microwave processing device/system can create strong temperature gradients in biodegradable polymer material. Novel physical phenomena caused by the heated particles cause local changes in viscosity and flow, leading to high mass transport and current densities in activated polymer matrix materials and to dramatically shorter reaction times and solvent-free reaction conditions. Advancements in the process speed and quality of packaging films in general can be achieved by increasing the polymeric amorphous to crystalline ratio, especially with regard to the claimed methods for manufacturing and sealing biodegradable packaging films. Micron-size particles or nanoparticles in the processed materials can interact with microwaves of different frequencies and intensities to create intentionally varied local material property changes to create an tunable flexible packaging product that is sustainable and “green.” Related systems, apparatus, methods, and/or articles are also described.

  • Patent number: 8578564
Abstract: A handle for receiving a cleaning article, such as a dusting device. The handle has one or more tines which are disposed outboard of a reference plane. This geometry provides a friction fit for receiving a removable cleaning device on the tines, without substantial interference. The friction fit retains the cleaning article on the handle during use while reducing tearing which occurs during installation.
