  • Patent number: 5293313
Abstract: A medical diagnostic imager (10) reconstructs (96) raw scan data into digital image representations which are stored in a mass storage memory (46) such as DRAM or disk. As the scanner reconstructs the series of images, each digital representation image is transferred to an image VRAM (100) into one of a plurality of selected image areas. A video monitor (24) displays the electronic image representations from the image VRAM in the selected pattern of images, e.g. a 4.times.3 grid of images. The digital image representations are transferred to the image VRAM and displayed on the video monitor as they are generated such that the monitor displays the previously generated images and the most recently generated image as it develops during the reconstruction process. The diagnosing physician selects (104) one of the images and selectively adjusts (110) the window and level of its gray scale.

  • Patent number: 5237311
Abstract: A trackball (10) is rotatably mounted on rollers (12, 14). The rollers are connected with rotational encoders (16, 18) for producing a series of pulses. Up/down counters (20, 22) convert the pulses into an indication of translation along two axes. Downward, non-rotational pressure on the trackball causes a transducer (B) to output an electrical signal which is recognizable as a selection signal. In some embodiments, the transducer is a strain gauge or other transducer (50) which provides an output whose magnitude varies with the amount of force. A comparitor (54) compares the output of the transducer with a selectable threshold to indicate whether a selection signal is to be issued. In other embodiments, the transducer has two states, e.g. a mechanical switch (70). The transducer changes states in response to the force on the trackball exceeding a preselected minimum.

  • Patent number: 4993025
Abstract: A network (A) carries large image blocks among medical diagnostic equipment (20, 22, 24), archive computer (26), and data handling and display stations (28, 30). Four kilobyte packets of 4 megabyte image blocks are moved from transmit buffers (38) to queuing buffers (42). The order in which packets from the queuing buffers are transmitted on the network medium (10) is determined by a combination of an assigned priority, duration in the buffer, and a statistical availability of the addressed receiving node. A data link (52) at the receiving node includes an elasticity buffer (122) which stores a small plurality bits, e.g. 5, to accommodate for variances in the clock speed of the transmitting and receiving nodes. A buffer table (60) monitors memory addresses at which preceding data packets corresponding to the same image are stored and provides address information to send each subsequently received packet.

  • Patent number: 4991193
Abstract: A gantry (A) of a CT scanner system has an x-ray tube (10) and radiation detectors (14) which produce patient diagnostic data. An operator using a keyboard (20) or other manual controls operates the x-ray tube and other components of the gantry. The operator also causes a central processing unit (C) to process the diagnostic data with a selected algorithm to provide diagnostic information for display on a display (24). The same keyboard and displays are also utilized in routine service and repair processes. A system monitor (E) compares operating conditions sensed by sensors (50), such as operating temperatures and compares them with acceptable operating conditions. When the sensed conditions are unacceptable, a timer (60) is started and shuts down (68) gantry operation after a preselected duration. The operator can override (72) the timed shut down, but each such override is recorded (74) in permanent storage (32).

  • Patent number: 4729099
Abstract: A differential scatter-air ratio calculation procedure is utilized to calculate scatter contribution which when combined with primary radiation yields patient dose. The lengthy polar coordinate integration of the prior art is replaced with a rectangular coordinate integration which to an extent can be performed outside an integration loop. Beam characteristics are entered into a one dimensional matrix BWP. A second matrix RSAR includes the differential scatter air ratio for incremental regions within the patient at a certain depth and radial distance from a scatter calculation point. During a rectangular coordinate integration, a two dimensional coordinate within a patient plane determines an offset into both the one dimensional beam characteristic matrix BWP and the differential scatter-air ratio matrix RSAR. Then values are multiplied to produce a scatter contribution from the incremental region.
