    Abstract: The present invention relates to novel oligomers of the formula R.sub.f --E--S--M.sub.1 ].sub.x [M.sub.2 ].sub.y H, and mixutes thereof, wherein R.sub.f is a perfluoroalkyl group, E is a linkage group, --M.sub.1 -- represents a hydrophilic monomer unit, --M.sub.2 -- represents a hydrophobic monomer unit, x and y represent the number of monomer units present in the novel oligomers. The sum of x and y is between 4 and 500 and x/(x+y) is between 1 and 0.5. The novel oligomers are useful as additives in protein foam type fire fighting compositions improving foam expansion, foam drainage and extinguishing times and reducing flammability of hydrocarbon contaminated protein foams. The novel oligomers are further useful as surface tension depressants providing improved wetting, spreading and leveling properties in aqueous systems.

    Abstract: This invention relates to aqueous based fire fighting foams containing a stabilizing amount of an oligomer of the formulaR.sub.1 --E--S(O).sub.n [M.sub.1 ].sub.x [M.sub.2 ].sub.y [M.sub.3 ].sub.z Hwherein R.sub.1 is an oleophilic aryl, araliphatic, aliphatic or cycloaliphatic group having up to 25 carbon atoms; E is a direct bond, or an organic covalently bonded divalent linking group, n is 0, 1 or 2, [M.sub.1 ] is a hydrophilic acrylamido monomer unit, [M.sub.2 ] is a copolymerizable non-acrylamido hydrophilic monomer unit, [M.sub.3 ] is a copolymerizable hydrophobic monomer unit, the average of the sum of x, y and z is between about 3 and about 500, and x/x+y+z is between 1 and about 0.5. These stabilizing oligomer additives in aqueous based fire fighting foams improve foam expansion, foam drainage and fire extinguishing times.

    Abstract: The instant invention relates to the use of ion-pair complexes derived from anionic perfluoroalkyl sulfonates, carboxylates, phosphates and phosphonates and cationic perfluoroalkyl surfactants. Such complexes are capable of reducing the surface tension of aqueous solutions dramatically even at extremely low concentrations, and are useful as wetting, spreading and leveling agents and are especially preferred as components in so-called aqueous film forming foam compositions for fighting polar and non-polar solvent and fuel fires.

    Abstract: Oil spills can be more effectively concentrated, collected, and controlled by employing a durable, rapidly spreading, water-insoluble surface film comprised of a fluorochemical. The fluorochemical agent has a density greater than water, a solubility of less than 0.01% in water, a spreading pressure preferably of >50 dynes/cm at <10 mg/m.sup.2, and is applied with a diluent to form a highly mobile film under actual field conditions. Useful fluorochemicals are those of the formula (R.sub.f).sub.n T.sub.m Z.sub.r, wherein R.sub.f is a perfluorinated aliphatic group, T is a connecting group, and Z is a neutral or polar group; n is 1 or 2, m is 0 or 1, and r is 1 or 2. The film is especially effective under adverse environmental conditions, and in combination with mechanical clean-up devices.
